ALCOSA PARK (ALFAFAR) | Learning from the Neighborhood and Its Residents

On October 16, 2026, students in the Master’s Degree Program in Innovation in the Built Environment (muHAB) at the Polytechnic University of Valencia visited Alcosa Park in Alfafar as part of the course “Social Sustainability I.”

They were warmly welcomed by Josefa Carreño Rodríguez, councilwoman for Social Welfare and a resident of Parque Alcosa, and had the opportunity to meet Juan Ramón Adsuara Monlleó, mayor of Alfafar.

One of the most meaningful moments of the visit was a conversation with a group of women who have been living in Alcosa Park for decades. They shared their memories, experiences, and a long history of collective struggles and community work that have helped shape the neighborhood as we know it today.

Their stories brought to life many of the issues raised during the recent screening of Women in the City, directed by Reyes Gallegos, particularly the vital role women play in transforming their neighborhoods and building community life.

Afterward, they walked through Alcosa Park, taking in the homes, streets, and public spaces, and enjoying the atmosphere of the neighborhood flea market.

Our sincerest thanks go to Josefa Carreño, the mayor of Alfafar, and, especially, to all the women who generously shared their time, knowledge, and memories with us. It was a valuable opportunity to learn about architecture and urban life from those who know the neighborhood best.
