BUILDING/LIVING. Strategies and Proposals for Social Housing

On October 15, Carlos Gómez and Eva Álvarez welcomed Caterina Figuerola and Ibon Bilbao ( LLINDAR ARCHITECTURE) to the Master’s Program in Innovation in Habitat (muHAB) at the Polytechnic University of Valencia.

The session began with a presentation outlining seven social housing strategies developed and implemented in Barcelona, exploring the relationships between architecture, the community, and everyday life.

After the lecture, the students participated in a group workshop in which they analyzed how these seven strategies could be adapted and applied to their own cities of interest. Working with maps and discussing different urban and social contexts, they explored the possibilities and challenges involved in applying these approaches to other places.

This was the first part of GESTAR/HABITAR, which will continue on October 23, with a study visit to Barcelona, where students will have the opportunity to learn firsthand about housing projects and initiatives.

A big thank you to Caterina and Ibon for sharing their knowledge and participating in such a productive discussion with our students!

Both activities—the session on the 15th and the trip to Barcelona—are part of the master’s program’s educational activities focused on experiential learning and are aligned with the UPV SIRVE Strategic Plan, fostering connections between universities, professionals, and society, as well as providing firsthand insight into innovative practices in public housing, sustainability, and community life.
