On the occasion of the International Day of Clean Energy the Universitat Politècnica de València reaffirms its commitment to a more sustainable energy model, consolidating significant advances in the use of renewable energies, its own photovoltaic generation and clean mobility on its campuses. The university’s energy strategy combines measures to reduce environmental impact with investments that promote the transition to a more efficient, self-sufficient and environmentally friendly system.
Regarding electricity consumption, UPV maintains its commitment to renewable energy through a tender for supply with a 100% green procurement guarantee. This decision ensures that all energy purchased by the institution comes from clean sources and directly contributes to the institution’s decarbonization goals. Scope 2 of the UPV Carbon Footprint is 0 thanks to this action.
At the same time, the UPV is developing a progressive plan to install photovoltaic plants on the roofs of its buildings. Eleven solar plants with a total capacity of 974.87 kWp are currently in operation, which, since their commissioning in July 2024, have generated 2,200.25 kWh. This infrastructure will be significantly expanded in 2026, when eight new plants are scheduled to be inaugurated, adding a further 1,018.70 kWp.During 2025, photovoltaic production for self-consumption reached 1,359.07 MWh..
Commitment to clean energy also extends to mobility. The UPV actively promotes public transport and active transportation to access its campuses, and more and more people are choosing electric vehicles as a sustainable alternative to traditional private vehicles. The university’s charging points are registering a steady increase in users. In 2025, 3,377 electric vehicle charges were carried out, resulting in a consumption of 45.12 MWh and a saving of 40.51 tons of CO₂, contributing to the reduction of emissions associated with daily commutes.
The combination of these actions – renewable electricity consumption, increasing photovoltaic production and low-emission mobility – constitutes a solid roadmap towards a more sustainable campus.
