Environmental Awards

This page gathers the awards and recognitions that the Universitat Politècnica de València has received for its commitment to the environment and sustainability. It includes distinctions awarded by national and international organizations, as well as special mentions to outstanding initiatives and projects. Its objective is to make visible the positive impact of the collective work of the UPV in environmental matters.


At the XXXVII CRUE-Sustainability Conference, held from October 29 to 31, 2025 at the University of Alcalá, the UPV received the “Global Recognition of Environmental Sustainability in Spanish Universities 2024” with the highest score. The award, granted by the CRUE-Sustainability sectoral commission, highlights excellence in Green Procurement and in the environmental impact assessment of university activities.


On June 12, 2025, the UPV was selected as a finalist in the Green Gown Awards 2025 in the international “2030 Climate Action”category. The recognition, awarded by the EAUC, acknowledges the institutional project “Towards 2030: Greening the Future from Campus to Community,” which outlines a roadmap toward climate neutrality and promotes actions in renewable energy, sustainable mobility, and circular economy.

The UPV was recognized in the EnerAgen Awards 2025, in the Public Initiative category, for its comprehensive strategy toward climate neutrality and its leadership in energy efficiency and energy transition. The award, granted by the Spanish Association of Energy Management Agencies (EnerAgen), highlights the institution’s strong commitment to decarbonization, the expansion of renewable energy, sustainable mobility, and advanced energy management across the campuses. The nomination showcases key achievements such as the photovoltaic expansion, carbon footprint reduction, energy‑efficiency measures, and city‑university collaboration to promote the climate transition.


The UPV was acknowledged as a finalist in the MetaRed S Awards 2025 in the Environmental category, thanks to the project “The Universitat Politècnica de València towards climate neutrality”. The award recognizes the institution’s comprehensive and ambitious approach to achieving climate neutrality by 2030, combining technological innovation, resource optimization, and collaboration with public stakeholders and citizens. The project stands out for its firm commitment to sustainability, the rollout of renewable energy, sustainable mobility, energy efficiency, and pioneering actions such as the UPV Living Lab, positioning the university as a benchmark in energy transition and ecological transformation.


On October 17, 2024, the annual report “Diagnosis of Environmental Sustainability in Spanish Universities”, prepared by the GESU group and coordinated by the UPV, received the Sustainability Actions 2024 award in the “Organizations and Education” category. The recognition, linked to CRUE-Sustainability, highlights the report’s importance as a tool to assess and improve environmental sustainability across Spanish universities.


On June 17, 2024, the UPV was selected as a finalist in the Green Gown Awards 2024 in the “Sustainability Institution of the Year”category. This international recognition underscores the institution’s commitment to sustainability and values its holistic transformation through research, innovation, and active community engagement.
