Sports, Culture, and Environmental Education

The fifth edition of the Fira de Muntanya de la Safor features excursions, concerts, exhibitions, and activities for people of all ages. The organizers have presented the event to the university community at the Gandia campus.

Gandia will celebrate November 21–29 the Fifth edition of the Safor Mountain Fair, an event that combines sports, environmental education, culture, and activities related to rural life. Daniel Muñoz and Xavi Ródenas presented the initiative at the Gandia campus of the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV), where they both studied.

During the session, they highlighted the importance of bringing the mountains closer to the public and promoting the conservation of natural areas. They also underscored the need to raise awareness about the effects of the climate emergency and emphasized the social and economic dimensions of the fair, which aims to highlight those who live and work in rural areas.

More than 35 events for all audiences

The program for the fifth edition of the Fira de Muntanya de la Safor includes 11 excursions, 20 talks, two panel discussions, two concerts, and two exhibitions, as well as children’s activities, workshops, demonstrations, sports events, and a community meal.

Marxuquera Square will once again serve as the main venue for the fair on November 21 and 22, featuring hiking groups, artisans, and local producers. Highlights of the planned activities include a rescue helicopter, a 5.5-meter portable climbing wall with specialized instructors, and a cycling scavenger hunt for children.

One of the main new features of this year’s event will be the change in venue for the 5th Mountain Film Festival of the Valencian Community, which will take place on November 26 and 27 at 6:00 p.m. at the Teatre del Raval, with free admission.

The program will feature 96-year-old mountaineer Jordi Pons, who will present a documentary about his career alongside filmmaker Joan Quintana. Also participating will be the all-female climbing group Dones Trangoworld—which includes Valencia native Rosa Real—which will premiere a documentary about its experience.

The festival’s schedule will continue on Saturday, November 28, with the 2nd Falconera Climbing Rally in Marxuquera, and will conclude on Sunday, November 29, with the 1st Safor Gravel Ride.

Finally, the speakers invited the university community at the Gandia campus to participate in the activities of this fair, which is organized by the Gandia City Council and the Societat Excursionista de la Safor.
