Donating blood: a small gesture that can save lives

The UPV’s Gandia campus will host a new event on Tuesday, October 27, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and from 4:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

A mobile team from the Valencian Community Blood Transfusion Center next Tuesday, October 27, the event will take place at the Gandia campus of the Universitat Politècnica de València to offer the entire university community the opportunity to help save lives by donating blood.

The center reminds everyone that donating blood is an act of solidarity that can make a difference for many people in the hospital. For this reason, they encourage students and campus staff to participate in this new blood drive.

A donation that can help many people

Throughout the academic year, mobile teams from the Valencian Community Blood Transfusion Center regularly visit university campuses to facilitate blood donation and raise awareness of this practice among the educational community.

Hospitals need a daily supply of blood components to address a wide variety of situations, such as accidents, surgical procedures, transplants, and treatments for patients with cancer and hematological diseases.

Each donation is processed to obtain various blood components—red blood cell concentrates, platelets, and plasma—which can be used to treat patients with different needs. A single donation can help up to three people, which is why the university community’s participation is especially valuable for maintaining blood supplies.

Where and when can you donate?

The blood drive will take place on Tuesday, October 27, in the Sala Triangular, located on the ground floor of Building F on the Gandia campus, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and from 4:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

To donate blood, you must be between 18 and 65 years old, weigh more than 50 kilos, and be in good health. Men can donate up to four times a year, and women up to three times, provided there is a minimum interval of two months between each donation.

Taking a few minutes to donate blood can make a big difference in other people’s lives.
