Movies in Valencian

The series returns to the Teatre Serrano in Gandia this fall.

The Language Promotion and Standardization Service (SPNL) at the Gandia campus of the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV) presents the series Movies in Valencian in Gandia, which will resume its program during the last quarter of 2026 with three screenings at the Teatre Serrano. The initiative, organized in collaboration with the Gandia City Council, the Mancomunitat de Municipis de la Safor-Valldigna, and the University of Valencia, aims to promote the presence of the Valencian language in cinema and in the region’s cultural offerings.

An accessible and free program

All the films in the series will feature Valencian dubbing and subtitles, both in screenings for adults and those aimed at children. This measure responds to a request from Gandia’s deaf community and aims to ensure that everyone can enjoy the screenings.

The performances for adults will take place in Room B of the Teatre Serrano at 7:00 p.m., with free admission until capacity is reached. The program includes three titles:

October 15:            The Red Penis, directed by Paula Ortiz

November 12:       Little things like these, by Tim Mielants

December 10:        Gladiator II, by Ridley Scott

During the presentation, Josepa Costa, a senior specialist in Linguistic and Cultural Promotion at the UPV’s Gandia campus, emphasized the importance of making the campaign an annual event and highlighted the value of film as a tool for linguistic normalization, as it allows the public to enjoy movies in Valencian.

Childhood in Film

This fall’s lineup is rounded out with a new edition of Children’s Film Festival in Gandia 2026, a project organized by the Gandia City Council’s Department of Children’s Affairs and the Municipal Agency for the Promotion of Valencian (AVIVA Gandia).

Aimed at families, the performances will take place one Sunday a month at 11:30 a.m. in Room B of the Teatre Serrano. Admission will also be free until capacity is reached. The scheduled dates and titles are:

October 18:            Mary Anning and the Dinosaur Beach

November 22:       Olivia and the Invisible Earthquake

December 20:        Hanna and the Forgotten Nadals

With a history spanning more than twenty years, the series remains committed to promoting the language through culture and entertainment, with programs aimed at audiences of all ages.
