Sports as an engine for tourism development

The Càtedra Gandia Turisme i Promoció organizes a conference on sports tourism.

Sports tourism has positioned itself as a key strategy to diversify the tourism offer and reduce the seasonality of demand, making it one of the most attractive trends in the tourism sector.

In this context, the Gandia Chair of Tourism and Promotion has organized a day with the aim of “providing the keys to its development and consolidation in the Safor”, as explained by those responsible. The meeting will take place on May 13 in the Gandia Campus of the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV) and will bring together professionals and specialists to share knowledge, experiences and proposals.

Sports tourism: a growing trend

Sports tourism is in full expansion, becoming a fundamental pillar of the tourism economy. This growth is largely driven by the celebration of sporting events capable of attracting thousands of national and international fans.

It is also an effective strategy for combating seasonality, since many sports activities can be carried out all year round. In addition, it contributes to sustainability by promoting mostly outdoor activities that are respectful of the natural and social environment.

This modality also helps diversify the tourist offer, attracting a visitor profile that seeks experiences beyond the traditional sun and beach tourism.

The conference organized by the Càtedra Gandia Turisme i Promoció was created with the aim of analyzing the rise of this type of tourism, its economic impact on destinations and the business opportunities it generates. Conceived as a space for exchange, the session aims to promote a better understanding of sports tourism and its potential.
