III International Conference of the Valencian Water Court
Traditional Irrigation in the 21st Century: Combining Heritage, Technology and Future Water Policies
In Tribute to Vicent Sales
15–17 April 2027, Valencia, Spain
We are pleased to announce the 3rd International Conference of the Valencian Water Court. This conference is a forum for researchers and practitioners to exchange ideas, experiences, opinions and research results relating to traditional irrigation evolving landscapes.

Traditional irrigation systems—including acequias, historic huertas, khettaras, foggaras and other community-managed hydraulic infrastructures—constitute a living heritage. For centuries, they have sustained agriculture, landscapes, biodiversity and collective forms of water governance. Today, they face major challenges, including water scarcity, climate change, agricultural abandonment, urban pressure and the need to adapt their management and innovation models.
The conference will bring together researchers, irrigation communities, and water managers from different countries to exchange experiences and discuss the present and future of these systems. It aims to strengthen dialogue between local and academic knowledge, promote new collaborative networks and contribute to participatory and sustainable water policies that respect hydraulic heritage. The programme will include presentations, round tables, participatory workshops, audiovisual activities, exhibitions and technical visits.
General information & topics
Practitioners and academics from all over the world are encouraged to present their latest research and applied experiences for workshop exchanges. The program committee encourages the submission of articles that communicate research findings, but also practicals experiences for exchange activities bringing irrigatiors and reasearchers together to exchange knowledge and co-create future collaboration opportunities.
