“Ballad of fish and birds”. Best School Short Film at the Quirino Ibero-American Animation Awards.
The animated short filmBallad of fish and birdsproduced as part of the Master’s Degree in Animation at the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV), has been awarded the Prize for Best School Short Film at the Quirino Awards for Ibero-American Animation, one of the main international references for animation produced in the Ibero-American sphere.
The work, directed by Anny Uribe and Juan José Arévalo, was previously nominated in its category, culminating its journey in the contest with the award. The short film has been developed as a Master’s Final Project and is the result of the joint work of a team formed by Sofía Añón, Carla Moliner, Nicolás García and Adasat Hernández, together with its directors.
The project has been academically tutored by Sara Álvarez, professor of the Department of Drawing, and Beatriz Herráiz, professor of the Department of Audiovisual Communication, Documentation and Art History (DCADHA), whose accompaniment has been key in the artistic, narrative and technical development of the short film. In addition, the production has had the collaboration of musicians from the Berklee College of Music Master’s program, thanks to the existing collaboration agreement between Berklee and the Universitat Politècnica de València, reinforcing the interdisciplinary and international character of the project.
The Quirino Awards for Ibero-American Animation, held annually in Tenerife, are the main space for the visibility, recognition and professional meeting of Ibero-American animation, bringing together studios, creators, schools, production companies and institutions from numerous countries. In this context, the award given toBallad of fish and birds The project takes on special relevance by placing an academic project in a highly demanding artistic and professional environment.
This award is an outstanding recognition of the talent of the students, the interdisciplinary teaching work and the training model of the Master in Animation of the UPV, oriented to the creation of projects with professional standards and capacity of insertion in international circuits of festivals.
