Regulatory Framework for Learning Assessment

Regulatory Framework for Learning Assessment

The UPV has drawn up recommendations in order to rationalise learning and assessment activities, bearing in mind both current regulations and the workload of students and teachers (Governing Council Agreement, 30 May 2019).

These recommendations have been defined with the following as a frame of reference:

  1. The criteria and guidelines to ensure quality in the European higher education area developed by the European Association for Quality Assurance in Higher Education (ENQA).

  2. 2. The guidelines in the articles of the UPV Normativa de Régimen Académico y Evaluación del Alumnado (NRAEA)[rules on student assessment and academic procedures].

Recommendations on learning and assessment activities at the UPV:

  1. These recommendations will facilitate any type of learning and teaching system, including planned training and assessment activities meeting the guidelines established in the following points.
  2. There should be alignment between learning outcomes, teaching methodology and the planned assessment methodology. Thus, in accordance with the defined learning outcomes, training and learning activities will be developed, together with an appropriate assessment system that provides evidence of scope and acquisition of associated skills.
  3. As far as possible, the workload of an assessment methodology should be consistent with both teaching load (ECTS) of training and learning activities and related student activities.
  4. As a general rule, no single assessment activity should exceed 40% of the total final grade. The latter should take into consideration the partial grades from different assessments carried out throughout the teaching period.
  5. The assessment system will include tools to guide students through the learning process.
  6. As a general rule, assessment systems shall include a procedure for resitting exams.
  7. Mechanisms shall be established to ensure fair assessment.
  8. The ERTs shall establish procedures for coordination and monitoring of learning and assessment events that ensure a balanced workload for teachers and students.
