Following the online elections held on 12 February, Vicenç Almenar has taken up his post as director of the Gandia Campus of the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV). 'We have set out on a path with the goal of growing this campus so that in ten years, around 3,000 people will be studying and working here,' said the new campus director in his speech. 'The proposed project will be achieved through hard work, cooperation and adaptation. Hard work on our part and with the Management Board; cooperation with the local community - government, business and society - and adaptation to the changes and crises that will likely come'.
The event, presided by the rector of the UPV, José E. Capilla, brought together students and staff from the university community, as well as authorities and representatives of institutions and companies from the Safor region in the Aula Magna of the campus. 'Today we are celebrating not only the beginning of a new term but also the continuity of a collective commitment to this campus, this city and public university education,' said the rector. For him, the arrival of the double degree in Marine Sciences and Technologies with Environmental Sciences 'marks a milestone in the academic offering of the campus, reinforcing its identity linked to the marine and environmental environment'.
The new double degree will begin in September, and 'for the next academic year 2026-2027, we have two new developments,' announced Vicenç Almenar. On the one hand, ‘the new Telecommunications Engineering curriculum will begin, adapted to current needs and in line with the changes that will also be implemented at the ETSIT, and on the other hand, the Degree in Business and Digital Technology will be launched, together with the Faculty of Business Administration and Management at the Vera campus’.
The event was also attended by the mayor of Gandia, José Manuel Prieto, who assured that ‘this reaffirms our commitment to the most important technological university in Spain, which, through its role and involvement, keeps the city moving forward. Today, the alliance between the Gandia City Council and the Universitat Politècnica de València is strategic for continuing to promote the development of the city.
Vicenç Almenar replaces Jesús Alba, who has been at the helm of the Gandia campus for two terms since 2017. ‘We have worked with a focus on people,’ said Alba after taking stock of his eight years at the helm of the school. In addition, ‘we have gone from four to five bachelor's degrees, from one to three double degrees, and another that will begin in 2025-2026, and from three to six master's degrees. This increase in degrees has been achieved with the highest quality’.
