Nova Talent

Miquel Pérez Nebot is an aerospace engineer from the UPV and one of the 111 most influential students of 2023 in Spain

[ 15/05/2023 ]

For Miquel Pérez Nebot, destiny is not a factor to be considered. On the contrary, "effort, perseverance and gratitude" are. By applying this formula, Miquel is achieving the dreams and goals he has set for his life project over the years.

The last one has been a "delightful surprise and an immense honour", as he acknowledges. We discuss his inclusion in the Nova Spain 2023 list and four other graduates from the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV). We refer to the list of the 111 most influential students - aged between 18 and 25 - in Spain.

This Valencian engineer, who is currently working at the Spanish headquarters of Airbus Operations in Getafe and is completing the second year of the Master's Degree in Aeronautical Engineering at the UPV, completed his degree in Aerospace Engineering at the UPV in June 2021. The grades obtained -with a final average of 8 and a percentile of 90%-together with the fact that he was in the High Academic Performance group, make his academic record stand out. In addition, other factors have influenced the Nova Talent List jury's decision.

Technical Director at Hyperloop UPV

This Valencian engineer combined his undergraduate studies with his participation, for three years, in Hyperloop UPV, one of the teams that make up Design Factory, the pioneering programme of the Universitat Politècnica de València that promotes the cross-curricular training of students and the learning-by-doing methodology. In this group of just over 40 students, he worked as a structural engineer and, during the last year, as the team's technical director. At the same time, he was part of the technical committee of the organisation of European Hyperloop Week, an annual international meeting that aims to promote this innovative means of transport at the European level.

Miquel highlights his time at Hyperloop as one of the "most fruitful and demanding" in his university process. Thanks to the Design Factory programme, he lists some skills he has developed: "Organisation, responsibility, companionship, ability to solve complex problems and respect different points of view in pursuit of a common goal".

United States and the Netherlands

Miquel Pérez's academic training also has an international projection, thanks to two stays at the universities of TU Delft in the Netherlands, and Purdue, in the United States. At the facilities of Zucrow Labs, one of the best aeronautical propulsion laboratories in the world in the academic field, he carried out his final degree project (on an innovative and more efficient turbine system), directed by Professor Guillermo Paniagua.

Thanks to the UPV

With all this background behind him (or probably thanks to it), one of the traits that best defines him is his humility. He claims that part of his success is due to the "excellent" training he has received at the UPV, both curricular and extracurricular.

"The opportunities that the UPV has given me have contributed to my professional and personal growth," Miquel Pérez. And he adds: "Without a doubt, I would recommend any young person to study at the UPV. Here, from what I know and have experienced, we students have nothing to envy from other American or European universities".
