Description of the title

The Master’s Degree in Landscape and Urban Planning at the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV) is an official postgraduate programme designed to offer specialised, quality training in urban planning and landscape, with an innovative approach adapted to current social demands and challenges. This master’s degree, taught at the School of Architecture (Vera Campus), has the main objective of training students to perform professional tasks related to the analysis, design, planning and management of urban planning and landscape, both at territorial and urban scale.
The programme is structured in 90 ECTS credits, distributed in modules ranging from the theoretical foundations of urban planning and landscape to advanced technical tools and urban management. The weight of the programme (30 ECTS) is highlighted by the existence of 4 workshops covering issues related to land use planning, urban planning, urban design and open space design.
The subjects offered cover principles and basic issues of urban planning and landscape, instrumental aspects linked to new technologies and data, training in management matters, as well as optional subjects that allow students to study specific areas of interest in greater depth. In addition, the master’s degree includes a Final Master’s Project (TFM), which consists of an original project that synthesises the knowledge acquired and which has a support subject called TFM Laboratory (3 ECTS).
The mP+U master’s degree is taught face-to-face and is mainly aimed at graduates in Architecture, Civil Engineering, Landscape Architecture and other related degrees. Students acquire skills to apply sustainability principles, handle advanced digital tools, and develop urban and landscape projects, always with an ethical and responsible perspective.
The programme also encourages internationalisation, opening up to student exchanges and the participation of guest lecturers throughout the course. It also has a quality assurance system that ensures academic excellence and adaptation to the needs of the labour market.
The mP+U master’s degree prepares students to face the contemporary challenges of urban planning and landscape, with a comprehensive and practice-oriented training.

Research and access to doctoral studies

The Doctoral Programme in Architecture, Building, Urban Planning and Landscape Architecture at the Universitat Politècnica de València recommends a degree in Architecture, Technical Architecture or Building Engineering, and that you have taken one of the master’s degrees affiliated to the programme or whose affinity is close to 100%.
The Master’s Degree in Landscape and Urban Planning is a master’s degree affiliated to the programme and can be accessed by fulfilling the admission requirements specified in the programme.
The teaching staff of the mP+U master’s degree has extensive recognised research experience in the field to which the degree belongs: ‘Architecture, landscape architecture, construction, building and urban planning, and civil engineering’.

Academic exchange / agreements with other universities

The curriculum of the Master’s Degree in Landscape and Urban Planning (mP+U) has been designed with the aim of facilitating both student mobility and the subsequent recognition of subjects, as one of the design criteria for the structure of the plan. To this end, the four optional subjects corresponding to the subject Specific Electives (18 ECTS) are grouped together in the third semester. This semester also includes the Master’s Final Project, which can be carried out at the host university. However, the defence of the TFM must be done compulsorily at ETSA, with the aim of promoting the STA actions of both our teaching staff and foreign lecturers, by means of participation in the intermediate presentation sessions at the destination and in our tribunals.
This proposal has been supervised by the ERT’s International Relations Sub-Directorate in order to ensure that the project is carried out in the best possible way. The agreed mobilities are being extended or redirected for the 178_Degree in Foundations for Architecture (GFA) and 2261_Master’s Degree in Architecture (MUARQ). Therefore, although there are no specific agreements at the moment, they will soon have adequate and sufficient places, as ETSA has more than 130 active agreements with European and non-European schools, to which the UPV agreements managed by OPII can be added. The current ENHANCE partners have already shown their interest in including this master’s degree in Landscape and Urban Planning in their programme, as it is precisely the area of Urban Planning that most interests them at the UPV.
In order to promote the internationalisation of the degree, subjects are taught in English, intensive joint workshops are held with partner universities and groups of students and visiting professors are received in different formats. The ERASMUS BIP#s (Blended Intensive Programmes) currently underway are creating the precedent for future subjects in the programmes to implement these dynamics and methodologies.

Facilities and laboratories

The School of Architecture, where the Master’s Degree is taught, occupies buildings 2A, 2B, 2C, 2D and 2F on the campus of the Universitat Politécnica de València. The teaching and student work spaces are distributed over the three floors of these buildings. The center’s premises and facilities comply with the provisions of Law 51/2003, of December 2, 2003, on equal opportunities, non-discrimination and universal accessibility for people with disabilities. Accessibility is duly guaranteed by elevators located in all blocks (8 in total). The center is equipped with all the necessary facilities to guarantee the required standards of functionality and comfort, in compliance with the relevant regulations. It has workshops, exhibition and conference rooms, as well as all the technological means necessary for the proper development of a postgraduate education.

Master’s Thesis

The Master’s Thesis (TFM) will consist of an original project, planning or management of urbanism and landscape, carried out and defended individually in a public event before a court, which synthesizes the knowledge and skills acquired in the master, developed in a professional format, in compliance with the applicable technical, urban-landscape and administrative regulations.
The TFM module consists of 12 ECTS that are distributed in two subjects: TFM Laboratory (3 ECTS) and Master’s Thesis (9 ECTS). The TFM is located in the 3rd semester, which gives the option to develop it at the host university. However, the defense of the TFM must be done compulsorily at ETSA, with the aim of promoting the STA actions of both our faculty and foreign teachers, through participation in the intermediate presentation sessions at the destination and in our tribunals.
