Master’s students visit the Acoustics Laboratories of the UPV Gandia Campus

The first year students of the Master’s Degree in Engineering, Processing and Characterization of Materials visited the Acoustics Laboratories of the Gandia Campus of the Universitat Politècnica de València last Monday, May 18, 2026, as part of a laboratory practice of the subject Vibrations and Acoustics.

The activity, promoted by the subject taught by professors Ernesto Juliá, Isaac Montava and Jorge Segura, allowed students to learn first-hand about different methods of acoustic characterization applied to the study of materials.

During the visit, the group was welcomed by Professor Jesús Alba Fernández and Professor Jordi García, who showed the main facilities used for acoustic measurements in both academic and professional environments.

One of the highlights of the day was the anechoic chamber, where students were able to experience the auditory sensation produced by the absence of reverberation and background noise. The visit also included the reverberation chamber, where the procedure for measuring reverberation time and its application in determining the sound absorption coefficient of a material was explained.

This activity allowed connecting the theoretical contents of the course with real applications of acoustic engineering, reinforcing the importance of the characterization of materials in areas such as acoustic comfort, space design, evaluation of absorbent materials and noise control.

We would like to thank Jesús Alba Fernández and Jordi García for their availability, their explanations and the time dedicated to show the facilities of great interest for the training of the students. This visit is a very enriching training experience and contributes to broaden the applied vision of the characterization of materials within the Master’s program.
