Invitation to Crearqcio in the muHab

Within the framework of the subject Housing Policy and Regulations of the Master of Innovation in the Habitat of the Universitat Politècnica de València, Alberto Rubio, as the person in charge of the course, has received a visit from the Crearqció cooperative, specialized in the accompaniment of cooperative housing projects in cession of use, through the collective Domèstiques.

During the day, accompanied by Julia Pineda and Marc Aparisi. The session addressed key issues related to housing cooperativism, understanding this model as an alternative to traditional forms of housing access, such as buying or renting. The session allowed for reflection on the need to decommoditize access to habitat, promoting collective, stable, and non-speculative models that place the right to housing and the right to the city at the center of the debate.

Throughout the presentation, aspects such as collective ownership and transfer of use, cooperative organizational processes, financing strategies, and access to land, as well as the role of public policies in promoting more affordable, sustainable, and community-oriented housing models, were analyzed. Different experiences and typologies of cooperative projects developed in the state and Valencian contexts were also presented, showing urban, rural, intergenerational, and senior examples.

The session provided insight into how to manage the habitat collectively. Special attention was paid to the importance of technical support, community building, and the articulation between public administration, social economy, and organized citizenship to guarantee the viability of these projects.

The day led to a classroom debate on the limits and potential of the cooperative model in the current context of the housing crisis, raising questions about affordability, community governance and the capacity of public policies to facilitate alternative models to the conventional real estate market.

This activity is part of the Master’s training actions oriented to experiential learning and direct contact with professional agents and groups working in housing innovation, in line with the UPV SIRVE Strategic Plan and fostering the connection between university, society and emerging practices linked to the right to habitat.
