This week, Professor Pol Llonch Obiols of the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona will lead a seminar on “Assessing Animal Welfare Using Precision Livestock Farming Tools” for students in the UPV’s Master’s Program in Precision Livestock Farming.
Pol holds a veterinary degree from the UAB and a Ph.D. in animal welfare from IRTA/UAB. Since then, he has worked at various research centers and universities, including IRTA, the University of Warwick, and Scotland’s Rural College (SRUC), both in the United Kingdom. He is currently involved in various projects related to animal welfare measurement and precision livestock farming. Notable among these are the European ClearFarm projects ( https://www.clearfarm.eu) and aWISH ( https://www.awish-project.eu).
The seminar will take place on September 28 at 6:00 p.m. and is part of the course “Biological Challenges in Precision Livestock Farming,” coordinated by María Cambra López of the Institute of Animal Science and Technology. In the seminar, we will learn about animals’ biological responses, measurable animal-based indicators, and the technologies available to measure these indicators.
