Master’s Thesis

PROCEDURE FOR THE COMPLETION, PRESENTATION AND DEFENCE OF THE DISSERTATION

All students must complete and pass a TFM in order to obtain the Master’s degree.

The TFM can be of a professional nature (technical report, etc.) or a research nature, and must be an original work.

The student chooses the topic of his/her dissertation according to his/her professional and academic expectations, or arranges a topic with a tutor.

When the topic and tutor are available, the TFM proposal must be registered in the Ebrón platform of the Intranet by the tutor or the student (in the latter case, the tutor must review the proposal). The proposal must include a title, abstracts in Spanish, Valencian and English and keywords.

The brief summaries must contain a contextualisation of the work, the objective(s) and a description of the methodology.

The responsible structure of the degree must validate the proposal.

The TFM can be defended in four calls: April, July, September and December. During the month prior to the corresponding call (bearing in mind that the month of August does not count towards the deadline), the student must make the online deposit of the TFM through the Ebrón platform. For example, if you want to defend the TFM in April, it must be deposited in Ebrón during the month of March.

The TFM can only be defended if all the subjects of the Master’s degree have been passed (with the exception of the work placement).

At the beginning of each academic year, the Academic Committee of the Degree will appoint a panel made up of three lecturers to assess the TFM. Each panel consists of three members and three substitutes.

The defence will consist of a 15-minute presentation and a round of comments and questions from the panel.

FORMAT OF THE MASTER’S THESIS

The maximum length of the dissertation must not exceed 10,000 words, not including bibliography or appendices.

Text font: Arial 11 justified. Margins and line spacing: 2.5 cm margins (top, bottom, left and right) and 1.5 line spacing.

The title page should be automatically generated when the thesis is submitted to Ebrón, including the title of the thesis, student name, tutor name(s), UPV and Department of Economics and Social Sciences logos.

The abstract in Spanish, Valencian and English, as well as keywords (maximum 6, separated by commas) must appear at the beginning of the TFM. The abstracts plus keywords should not exceed 2 pages.

The paper must then include a table of contents, an index of figures and an index of tables.

In the body of the paper, sections and, where appropriate, subsections (1, 1.1., 1.2, etc.) should be numbered. Excessive fragmentation of the text into short sub-sections is discouraged.

A Bibliography should be included at the end of the work. It is advisable to consult the UPV BiblioGuide in order to manage citations appropriately:

https://upv-es.libguides.com/citas-bibliografia

Finally, the Annexes, if any, should appear.
