“Journalism and the connected society: new narratives, new responsibilities”

The Gandia Campus of the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV) will host the XXXII International Congress of the Spanish Society of Journalism from June 10 to 12.

Under the heading “Journalism and the connected society: new narratives, new responsibilities”, the Gandia Campus of the Universitat Politècnica de València will host the XXXII International Congress of the Spanish Society of Journalism (SEP). This meeting will turn the campus into a meeting point for academic and professional debate on the main challenges of contemporary journalism in a context marked by digital transformation, artificial intelligence and new news consumption habits.

Gandia, epicenter of the debate on the future of journalism

The congress, to be held from June 10 to 12, will bring together researchers, teachers and communication professionals to reflect on the profound transformations that the media ecosystem is undergoing.

The event will also include the participation of two leading international speakers. On the one hand, Madalena Oliveira professor at the Universidade de Minho and specialist in sound studies, auditory culture and journalism. On the other hand, Tiziano Bonini, professor at the Università degli Studi di Siena, renowned for his research on radio and new media, co-author -together with Emiliano Treré- of the book “Algoritmos de la resistencia”.

Their presentations will offer a critical and global vision of the evolution of the contemporary media ecosystem, with special attention to the new forms of production, distribution and consumption of journalistic content.

Proximity journalism and challenges in a connected society

The program also includes a round table dedicated to proximity journalism, a key area to understand the social role of the media in local contexts. This session will be attended by graduates of the Gandia Campus who are currently developing their professional work in different media.

Among them, Jordi Company, journalist at Ràdio Xàtiva Cadena SER, and Virginia Delgado, from Onda Cero Alzira, who will share their experience in the local and regional radio field. Also intervene Saray Fajardo, delegate of the newspaperLevante-EMV in La Safor.

Advanced training

As a prelude to the congress, a training day will be held on Wednesday, June 10, aimed especially at early-stage researchers and university faculty. The session will include three practical workshops focused on key issues for the current academic career: the use of artificial intelligence applied to research and teaching; strategies for publishing in scientific journals of impact in the field of Communication; and the creation of podcasts as a tool for scientific dissemination and teaching resource.

These activities are designed to provide useful and immediately applicable tools, combining technical training and a hands-on approach.

An international space of reference

The 32nd International Congress of the SEP consolidates its role as a meeting forum between academia and profession, with a strong international vocation. For three days, from June 10 to 12, the Gandia Campus of the Universitat Politècnica de València will become a space for the exchange of knowledge, innovation and critical reflection on the future of journalism.
