Senior Intercampus

Meeting day for senior students from Gandia and Vera campuses.

The senior students of the Gandia Campus have participated in the Intercampus Day held at the Vera Campus of the Polytechnic University of Valencia (UPV). This meeting brought together senior students from the Gandia and Vera campuses in an activity that, according to the organization, “aims to promote cultural and academic exchange between the different campuses of the UPV.”

Academic and cultural visit

The program began with a visit to the Colegio del Arte Mayor de la Seda, home of the Silk Museum. During the tour, the group of students was able to learn about the history and artistic value of silk in the city of Valencia, as well as the largest and oldest medieval guild archive in Europe. In addition, they visited emblematic areas of the building, such as the Hall of Fame, the Sala de la Pometa or the Chapel of San Jerónimo, and enjoyed a spectacular collection of garments, utensils and historical pieces.

Later, the activity continued at the Vera Campus, where the Vice Rector for Art, Science, Technology and Society of the UPV, Salomé Cuesta, greeted the participating students. Afterwards, the group took a tour of the Sculpture Campus, a space that “allows visitors to get a close look at the UPV’s sculpture collection and reflect on the integration of art in the university environment”. This collection combines art, science and technology, and includes works by national and international artists that address movements such as abstraction, kinetics, organic and geometry.

The Intercampus Day concluded with an institutional event with the participation of Ana Muñoz, head of the Senior University, and Lluís Miret, deputy director of the Gandia Campus. As a cultural finale, the theater group, directed by Facundo Insaurralde, performed an excerpt from the play “Vested interests” by Jacinto Benavente.

UPV Senior University Classrooms

It should be recalled that in 1999 the Aulas Universitarias de la Experiencia (University Classrooms of Experience), later called Universidad Sénior, were born. This training program, aimed at people over 50 years of age, was implemented on the Gandia Campus in the 2017-2018 academic year.

Of an informative and cultural nature, the Senior University is especially aimed at “those who have not had the opportunity to participate in university life” and, in general, “all those interested in continuing learning and training in the various areas of knowledge.”

The Gandia Campus Senior Program is under the Vice-Rectorate for Art, Science, Technology and Society of the UPV and has the collaboration of the Generalitat Valenciana, through the Department of Education, Universities and Employment.
