Launch of the new edition of the university-level educational program for people over 50.
The Senior University program at the Gandia campus of the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV) will hold the Opening Ceremony for the New 2026–2027 Academic Year on Tuesday, October 20, in the Main Auditorium on campus and will feature presentations by Salomé Cuesta, vice rector for Art, Science, Technology, and Society at the UPV; Vicenç Almenar, director of the UPV’s Gandia campus; Ana Muñoz, head of the UPV’s Senior University; and Javier Estornell, program coordinator at the campus.
The event will also include a screening of the film Let’s go read it again, directed by Sonia Martínez. The play was produced as part of the workshop From Listening to Storytelling, as part of the conference Interludes.
A growing and diversifying range of educational programs
The senior program at the Gandia campus continues to grow and has consolidated its second general education group, which was launched last academic year. In addition to the increase in enrollment, this year the program continues to focus on specialized courses, with offerings such as a course on artificial intelligence and the well-established theatre course, which has seen a rise in demand.
This academic year, the program has 118 enrolled students, a figure that confirms the program’s positive growth and the interest in a university education that combines science, culture, art, and knowledge, according to the program director at the campus.
The general curriculum is organized into two groups: one with classes on Mondays and Wednesdays, which includes eight courses, and another with classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays, which includes seven courses. Each group will have a total of 120 instructional hours.
Among the new features of this academic year is the addition of new courses related to health, typography, economics, communication, and literature. These courses join others that have been very well received in previous years, covering fields such as neuroscience, art, botany, astronomy, Egyptology, landscape, and gastronomy.
With this curriculum, the Gandia campus’s senior program reinforces its commitment to lifelong learning and offers a diverse range of courses, allowing students to explore different disciplines and expand their knowledge in a university setting.
