Nearly 400 students are starting classes at the first permanent academic center of a Spanish university in China.
The Polytechnic University of Valencia (UPV) and Beihang University have officially inaugurated the Beihang Valencia Polytechnic Institute (BVPI) at the Hangzhou International Campus. This project marks the first permanent academic presence of a Spanish university on Chinese soil that has been officially accredited by the Ministry of Universities.
The event was attended by the president of the UPV, José E. Capilla, and the president of Beihang University, Wang Yunpeng, accompanied by the regional minister of Education, Culture, and Universities, María del Carmen Ortí, the Consul General of Spain in Shanghai, Francisco de Asís Benítez, and institutional and academic representatives from Zhejiang Province. The opening of this campus marks the culmination of more than three decades of cooperation, scientific projects, and student exchanges between the UPV and Chinese universities.
In this initial phase, the BVPI welcomes nearly 400 students—including about 80 from the Valencian Community and the surrounding area of the UPV, as well as local and international students. The academic offerings, taught entirely in English, include four bachelor’s degree programs and six master’s programs in fields such as artificial intelligence, computer science, and aeronautical engineering, to which doctoral programs will be gradually added.
Furthermore, the campus’s strategic location in Hangzhou’s technology hub facilitates direct ties to the area’s industrial ecosystem, supported by working meetings and collaborative initiatives with leading companies in the sector, such as Geely, Unitree Robotics, and Huawei.
