Design, Creative Programming, and Generative Systems
On October 29, the Faculty of Fine Arts at the Polytechnic University of Valencia will host the conference “Design 🖤 Code: Design, Creative Programming, and Generative Systems,” an event organized as part of the Bachelor’s Degree in Design and Creative Technologies and included in the official program of the Valencia Design Fest (sponsored by the Design Foundation of the Valencian Community).
The event aims to explore what happens when programming is no longer viewed as a technical obstacle but rather as a canvas and a living tool for design. Drawing on the experiences of two industry professionals, the workshop will examine how creative coding, generative processes, and the development of custom tools expand the possibilities of typography, dynamic identities, and visual systems.
Program and Speakers
6:00 p.m. | Lea Naisberg: Designing with Code
Graphic designer and creative coder, founder of Creative Coding NYC, and currently a designer at SMLXL. Her practice combines a methodical approach with a playful and experimental take on design. In her talk, she will show how code has evolved from a technical tool to a fundamental pillar of her work, opening up new avenues for typographic experimentation and visual systems.
7:15 p.m. | Ricardo Lodroño (Span Graphics): Building Our Own Tools for Visual Systems Design
A specialist in creative coding, web technologies, and AI-assisted coding. Ricardo will discuss how to go beyond the traditional use of applications such as Figma or p5.js to design and build our own custom tools capable of generating compositions, variations, and graphic elements based on a system’s rules.
