Times Higher Education recognises UPV among the 200 universities with the most significant social and economic impact globally

The Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV) is one of the 200 universities with the world's most significant social and economic impact. This is attested to by 2023 THE University Impact Rankings, the fifth edition of the ranking compiled by Times Higher Education (THE).
The ranking ranks higher education institutions based on their commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), an initiative launched by the United Nations (UN) in 2015.
Specifically, THE calculates each institution's overall annual position by combining its score on SDG 17 (Partnerships to achieve the goals) with its three highest scores on the other SDGs. For the overall ranking, the final score is an average of the total scores for the last two years.
Top 100 worldwide in 5 SDGs and 7th best university in the world for Decent Work and Economic Growth
2023 THE University Impact Rankings recognises the institution led by José E. Capilla as the seventh best university in the world in SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), 20th in SDG 13 (Climate Action) and 45th in SDG 4 (Quality Education).
In addition, it is also in the global top 100 in SDG 9 (Industry, innovation and Infrastructure, ranked 70th) and SDG 2 (Zero Hunger, ranked 84th).
Likewise, the indicator, which in this edition has analysed a total of 1,591 universities, includes the UPV in the world's top 200 in three more: SDG 1 (End poverty), SDG 7 (Affordable and clean energy) and SDG 12 (Responsible production and consumption) - and in the top 300 in two others – SDG 6 (Clean water and sanitation) and the SDG mentioned above 17.
It should be recalled that the 17 SDGs were officially formulated on 25 September 2015, the day on which the UN approved the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, including 17 global goals to eradicate poverty, protect the planet and ensure prosperity. Each of them has specific targets to be achieved during these 15 years.

The THE ranking once again highlights the excellence of the UPV, recognised by all the top international rankings.
Not surprisingly, in its most recent edition, the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU, popularly known as the Shanghai ranking) rated the UPV as the best Technical University in Spain, as well as including it, for the 18th consecutive year, among the 500 best universities in the world.
Likewise, the latest QS World University Rankings (June 2022) included the UPV in the top 400 worldwide, indicating it as the best university in the Valencian Community.
