Introduction

Mobility is undergoing a radical change with the introduction of many electrically powered vehicles due to their energy and ecological advantages. This type of mobility, both from an energy point of view due to the performance of the engines and the possibility of drastically reducing CO2 emissions, especially in cities, combined with the possible production of energy from renewable sources, can lead to a very significant reduction of emissions at a global level.

Objectives

The Master's Degree in Electric Mobility is designed to prepare professionals with skills in the different technologies inherent to electric mobility, such as electric drives, power electronics, energy storage, the infrastructure necessary for recharging, vehicle dynamics, system control, and the global management of electric vehicles.

The purpose of this master's degree is for graduates to acquire current knowledge based on technological advances and develop the skills and attitudes necessary to grow professionally both in emerging companies in the sector and in traditional companies in the automotive industry.

Master's structure

The Master's Degree in Electric Mobility Engineering consists of 4 modules:

Module I. Technological Fundamentals Module: it consists of 3 subjects:

  • Subject 1: Electronic Fundamentals
  • Subject 2: Mechanics Fundamentals
  • Subject 3: Electrical Fundamentals
Students select two of the three optional subjects depending on the degree of access to the master's degree (Electrical, Electronic or Mechanical). Each subject has a specific course that will enable students to reinforce their knowledge and acquire skills.

Module II. Specific Fundamentals Module consisting of 6 specific subjects to electric mobility. The subjects are divided into different courses over the three semesters of the master's degree. The subjects are the following:

  • Subject 1: Electrical Mobility Fundamentals provides an overview of electrical mobility and connects all the subjects in this module.
  • Subject 2: Vehicle Mechanical Design deals with the vehicle's dynamic behaviour, such as tyres, suspensions, etc.
  • Subject 3: Electrical Energy provides knowledge of energy sources, storage, and the necessary infrastructure, such as electrical installations and converters.
  • Subject 4: Electrical Traction provides practical knowledge related to the movement of the vehicle through the use of an electric motor, the power electronics to control it, and the control strategy to follow.
  • Subject 5: Control Systems subject provides the knowledge for vehicle control, autonomous, traction management, necessary sensorisation, etc.
  • Subject 6: Logistics provides practical knowledge of how to manage infrastructures intelligently and communications.

Module III. Elective Module comprises a subject called General Electives, where, in addition to offering 3 courses initially, there is the possibility of doing curricular work experience, academic exchanges or stays in research centres. Topics may include:

  • Vehicle fleet management
  • Energy conversion for auxiliary systems
  • Advanced mechanical design
  • Advanced electrical design
  • Vehicle and system communications
  • Vehicle maintenance.

The General Electives module is designed to enable students to complete their curriculum:
  • Taking elective courses. All information regarding the specific offer of elective courses will be published and available to students each academic year prior to their enrolment. Regardless of a student's elective courses, the curriculum design ensures they will acquire the competencies that define the degree
  • With credit recognition for external academic internships in the curricular modality up to a maximum of 13.5 ECTS.
  • With credit recognition in order to facilitate mobility up to a maximum of 13.5 ECTS

Aimed at

The following degrees have been used as references for the design of this master's syllabus:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Electronics and Automation
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering

Consequently, these three degrees are considered reference degrees for the curriculum design and their graduates, in accordance with the merit assessment criteria established in the following section, may be directly admitted to the master's mentioned above.

Graduates in other degrees with related competences without complements, such as the following, may also be admitted:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Engineering
  • Bachelor's Degree in Aerospace Engineering
Those admitted to these degrees must take the subjects corresponding to the Technology Fundamentals module for mechanics. This module is considered to be an advanced level of knowledge, but it is necessary to improve their skills in electronics and electricity.

Likewise, in accordance with the merit assessment criteria established in the following section, graduates with degrees equivalent to those indicated above from any Spanish university will be admitted, where applicable, without training complements.

The following graduates will also be admitted without training complements if they are studying the specific Technological Fundamentals in the same way as the graduates:

  • Technical Industrial Engineer
  • Industrial Engineer
  • Industrial Electronics and Automation Engineer.
  • Aeronautical Engineer

According to the first additional disposition of Royal Decree 822/2021 on the "Effectiveness of official university degrees corresponding to the system prior to the EHEA", those who hold an official Technical Engineering degree can access university master's degree courses.

Applicants with qualifications whose competences are different from the above will be assessed by the Master's Academic Committee on the basis of the subjects studied and the evidence of skills and achievement, with the possibility of establishing complementary training that must not exceed 20% of the 90 credits it consists of, i.e. 18 credits, in accordance with the provisions of article 18. 5 of Royal Decree 822/2021, which establishes the organisation of higher education and the procedure for quality assurance, as well as article 24 of the UPV's pre-registration and admission regulations for university master's degree courses.

These training complements will not be considered a pre-requisite for admission and enrolment on the master's degree but may be taken simultaneously.

Students who have been assigned training complements will formalise their enrolment in these complements in the same academic year they access the university master's degree. In other words, the training acquired with these complements will not be necessary to take the first semester of the master's degree. These training complements will be taken in the reference degrees in the first semester of the year.

Under no circumstances may the master's degree be obtained without having previously passed the complementary courses.

Admission criteria

The access requirements for this degree are those established in general terms in Royal Decree 822/2021, in the wording given in Article 18. Likewise, those set out in the specific regulations for pre-registration and admission to university master's degree courses at the Universitat Polit�cnica de Val�ncia (UPV).

In order to access the official master's degree, it is necessary to hold one of the following degrees:

  • 1. Official Spanish university degree of graduate or equivalent, or another University Master's degree, or degrees of the same level as the Spanish Bachelor's or Master's degree issued by universities and higher education institutions of an EHEA country that allows access to master's studies in that country.
  • 2. Degrees from educational systems that do not form part of the EHEA but are equivalent to a bachelor's degree and do not need recognition. These degrees do require verification of the level of training involved by the university, provided that in the country where the degree was awarded, it allows access to postgraduate university studies. In no case will access by this route imply the homologation of the previous degree held by the interested party or its recognition for purposes other than that of undertaking the master's studies.
  • 3. A foreign university degree recognised by the Ministry of Education as equivalent to an official Spanish university degree or a foreign higher education degree declared by the Ministry of Education as equivalent to an official university degree or academic level that allows access to master's studies.
  • 4. From an official university degree corresponding to the pre-EHEA system in accordance with the provisions of the first additional provision of the Royal Decree 822/2021:
    • Official qualification as an architect, engineer or graduate
    • Official degree of graduate, technical architect or technical engineer, with any additional training that may be required and in accordance with the provisions of the corresponding verification report of the master's degree to which access is sought.
  • 5. Exceptionally, students of a Spanish or EHEA degree who still have to pass the degree final project and a maximum of 9 ECTS credits may be admitted on a conditional basis. Undergraduate students who have yet to accredit the knowledge of a foreign language required to obtain a bachelor's degree may also be accepted.
  • 6. Exceptionally, in the academic programmes with successive courses in the field of Engineering and Architecture offered by the Universitat Polit�cnica de Val�ncia, students may be conditionally admitted to study the official master's degree of this programme without having completed the related degree, provided that they still have to pass the degree final project and one or more courses, which in no case together (Degree final project and courses) may exceed 30 ECTS credits.
