Master's Double Degree in Agricultural Engineering + Agrifood and Environmental Economy

Introduction and aims

The Master’s Degree in Agricultural Engineering (MUIAGRO) qualifies students to work as agricultural engineers, while the Master’s Degree in Agrifood and Environmental Economy (MUEAMA) is geared towards acquiring the necessary skills to work in the professional fields of environmental consultancy, management of agri-food companies and public management. Additionally, the master’s degree aims to train future researchers so that its graduates can go on to doctoral studies.

The syllabus of both degrees has a multidisciplinary academic orientation that includes both professional and research aspects. The double degree allows students to acquire the competencies of both master’s degrees through an integrated academic pathway. All of this, in a shorter time and at a lower financial cost than obtaining both master’s degrees individually. Therefore, a MUIAGRO student, instead of taking the 102 ECTS of the MUIAGRO and the 60 ECTS of the MUEAMA, only takes a total of 134 ECTS.

 

Structure of the master’s degree

- 1st year (60 ECTS): this coincides exactly with the first year of the Master’s Degree in Agricultural Engineering

-2nd year - semester A (40 ECTS): students will study the specialised subject of Food Economy for Development and the professionally oriented subject Policy and Economic Management of Natural Resources within the Master’s Degree in Agricultural Engineering.

They will also study 2 compulsory subjects from the MUEAMA: Financial Management of an Agrifood Company (32026, 5 ECTS) and Business Management and Macroeconomic Framework (32028, 5 ECTS).

 

- 2nd year - semester B (34 ECTS): 3 of the 4 optional subjects of the MUEAMA will be studied (4 ECTS): Analysis of Efficiency and Productivity in Agriculture (32030, 4 ECTS); Social Economy and the Agrifood Sector (32033, 4 ECTS); Planning and Internationalisation in Marketing (32035, 4 ECTS) and Water Policies and Efficient Irrigation Management (32037, 4 ECTS). Additionally, it will be compulsory to complete academic internships (4 ECTS), the master’s thesis for the MUIAGRO (32028, 12 ECTS) and the master’s thesis for the MUEAMA (32043, 6 ECTS).

People interested in obtaining an official university degree that qualifies them to work in the professional field of technical agricultural engineering.

 

Admission criteria

Students must meet the admission criteria for the Master’s Degree in Agricultural Engineering, as it is a qualifying master’s degree.

The UPV’s Bachelor’s Degree in Agrifood and Rural Engineering, an official university degree that served as the template for designing the syllabus for the Master’s Degree in Agricultural Engineering, is considered as the reference degree for accessing the aforementioned master’s degree. Thus, according to the merit assessment criteria defined in the following section, its graduates will be accepted in this master’s degree without any additional training.

Furthermore, according to the merit assessment criteria defined in the following section, graduates from any Spanish university with equivalent degrees to those specified in the above paragraphs will be accepted without any additional training. For all other applicants who meet the entry requirements, the MUIAGRO’s ERT (entity responsible for the degree) will establish the additional training that has to be completed and which, in any event, will be deemed to be a pre-requisite for admission.

Graduates of technical engineering under the previous regulation must obtain the appropriate degree, by following the established adaptation pathway.

In addition to the above, as a matter of priority, admission will require B2 level certification in a foreign language and the minimum university entrance mark, according to the terms governing the UPV.
