The new Bachelor's Degree in the Fundamentals of Architecture, together with the Master's Degree in Architecture, replaces the old Degree in Architecture. The former two are jointly equivalent to the latter.
This degree aims to train future professionals to be able to create architectural plans that satisfy the users' aesthetic, technical and other requirements, always respecting the limits imposed by cost factors and building regulations.
Architecture combines technology, utility and art, so it is advisable for students to have a good prior knowledge of physics, mathematics, technical and artistic drawing and art history. To ensure progress in these studies, it is advisable to tackle them with critical and creative thinking, a practical perspective and a willingness to work.
You will understand the relations that buildings have with people and the environment, and also the need to connect buildings with the spaces between them depending on needs and human scale.
You will know the history and the theories of architecture, as well as the arts, technology and human sciences related to it. You will also know the role of fine arts as an influence on the quality of architectural design, urban planning and the skills involved in the planning process.
Comprenderás los problemas de la concepción estructural, de construcción y de ingeniería vinculados con los proyectos de edificios así como las técnicas de resolución de estos.
You will understand the problems of structural design, construction and engineering that are associated with building design and the techniques to resolve these issues.
You will know the physical problems, technologies and functions of buildings and be able to equip these building with internal conditions of comfort and climate protection.
You will know the industries, organizations, regulations and procedures that are necessary to draw up plans in buildings and to integrate the blueprints into the planning.
In addition, you will have developed the learning skills needed to undertake further studies with a high degree of autonomy.
Besides being the only degree that makes it possible to apply to the Master's Degree Studies in Architecture, the Bachelor's Degree in Fundamentals of Architecture allows you to enter the world of work as an employee. You can work in companies, in architecture or engineering studies, consultancies, developers or building companies, service enterprises, etc. You can also carry out all kinds of professional activities, except those that are the exclusive responsibility of regulated professions, and enter the civil service (sitting public entrance examinations for the European Union, the state, regions or municipalities).
You will have the opportunity to gain work experience in any of the companies, professional studios, technical institutes, public and private organizations and institutions the School of Architecture and the UPV have signed cooperation agreements with.
These internships are managed by the School's Practical Training Unit and always take place under the supervision of an academic tutor, to ensure the best working conditions and maximum training usefulness.
Thanks to the exchange agreements that the School has signed, you can spend one semester or a full academic year abroad in one of the universities in more than 30 different countries in Europe and around the world. You can also join the international intensive workshops organised by these universities.
The Bachelor's Degree in Fundamentals of Architecture is the only degree that allows you to enrol in to the Master's Degree Studies in Architecture.
You will also be able to enrol in to the following master's degree courses offered by the UPV: Architectural Heritage Conservation, Landscape Architecture, and Advanced Architecture, Landscape, Urban Planning and Design.
You may also apply any other UPV master's degree course by taking the corresponding bridging subjects.
