Advice and recommendations when renting accommodation
Students are required to show the property owner the original of their current academic year’s university enrolment and, if requested, to provide a photocopy of their ID card or passport.
Students are reminded that it is important to formalise a tenancy agreement, which must state the identity of the signatories, the identification of the rented property, the agreed duration, the amount of the deposit and of each monthly payment, and any other clauses freely agreed by the parties.
Once the contract is signed, the student should keep a copy and, when paying the deposit or the monthly instalments, should always request the corresponding receipt.
Students are also advised to personally check the condition of the property before signing any document, and to make sure it has everything they need.
Finally, it is advisable not to rush and to consider several offers before deciding. Those interested may also check the local press and specialised real-estate publications, or even opt for temporary accommodation in a hostel or guesthouse until they find the flat that best suits their needs.
