Inauguration at ETSIADI

Pedro Yuste becomes director of the School of Aerospace Engineering and Industrial Design with a commitment to continuity

[ 26/02/2026 ]

'Continuity, commitment and adapting to the future' are the key factors that have driven Pedro Yuste Pérez to apply for the position of director of the School of Aerospace Engineering and Industrial Design (ETSIADI) at the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV). After eight years as head of studies, he is taking on the challenge with the aim of consolidating the work that has been done. He looks forward to the challenges that will define the next six years in management. You can check the results of the elections held on 10 December 2025 at this link.

Pedro Yuste Pérez holds a PhD in Computer Science from the UPV and has been a lecturer in the Computer Engineering Department since 2000. He currently holds the position of Lecturer, accredited as a Senior Lecturer.

His research has focused on fault-tolerant real-time and embedded systems, applying them since 2013 to uncrewed aircraft and air traffic management. He has been acting director of ETSIADI since 1 July 2025, when Juan Antonio Monsoriu resigned for personal reasons.

Six years to integrate artificial intelligence

The new director begins a six-year term with a clear short-term goal: strategic adaptation to artificial intelligence. 'We can't just fight against what's coming; it's a new technology, and we must get used to integrating it into teaching and assessment,' he explains.

The incorporation of artificial intelligence will not be limited to the classroom. Yuste emphasises that it also represents an opportunity to optimise the school's internal management. With fourteen degree programmes soon to be launched, ETSIADI faces a significant administrative burden. 'There are many degrees, a lot of management, and we have to do everything we can to speed up the different processes,' he says.

A benchmark in aerospace, industrial and design

In the long term, the aim is to strengthen the school's position as a benchmark in three major areas: aerospace, industry and design. 'We want to strengthen our position and continue to be a school of reference, he says. Born in Cuenca on 28 February 1973, Pedro Yuste Pérez spends what little free time he has left on sport, especially in the mountains.

The rector of the UPV, José E. Capilla, presided over the inauguration ceremony, held on 23 February 2026. The previous director, Juan Antonio Monsoriu, bid farewell to the position he had held since 2018. He reviewed the achievements of ETSIADI during his tenure and, in an emotional speech, recalled a line from one of his favourite films, Interstellar, which states that 'love is the only thing that transcends time and space.' Perhaps that idea best describes this moment of farewell and new beginnings, where what is truly important once again takes its rightful place.
