Chinese New Year

2026 is the Year of the Fire Horse. Will it also be when you take the leap to study or work in China?

[ 19/02/2026 ]

The Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV) is once again joining in the Chinese New Year celebrations with a special programme that brings the culture and academic reality of the Asian country to the entire university community. Under the symbolism of the fire horse, associated with energy, passion and great change, the UPV's ties with China are growing stronger every day, with courses to be taught next year at the Hangzhou campus. The Chinese horoscope says that the fire horse represents energy, passion and great change. Perhaps this is the year you can study or work in China. There is no shortage of opportunities.

The IDC Chair is organising a cultural immersion and information day at the School of Aerospace Engineering and Industrial Design (ETSIADI) on Thursday, 19 February. At 12 noon in Classroom China S04, China in the first person. Do you want to know the truth about living in China? Listen to those who have already been there.

At 5:30 p.m., in the ETSIADI auditorium, the day will conclude with the concert 'Silk & Bamboo: Fire Horse',a sensory journey through traditional instruments. At 7.15 pm, the celebration will close, once again in the Chinese Classroom S04, with The Tea House: Literature and Flavour, dedicated to the work of Lao She. It will be an opportunity to enjoy a tea ceremony, because Chinese culture cannot be explained; it must be savoured.

Gandia Campus

The Chinese New Year celebrations will also play a prominent role on the Gandia campus, which, for the second consecutive year, will host a public event. The UPV, together with Gandia City Council, Moll Motor, the Tongwen Institute and the Association of Chinese Merchants of the Valencian Community, is launching an initiative that combines interculturality, urban revitalisation and the promotion of local trade. There will be workshops on calligraphy, gastronomy, tea ceremonies and traditional clothing, as well as the traditional parade and lion dance, which will turn the capital of La Safor into a meeting point between cultures.

The five free workshops will begin on 21 February at 4 pm in front of the Town Hall. At 6 pm, the parade will set off from the Omoda and Jaecoo dealerships of Moll Motors and make its way to the Town Hall square, passing along Paseo Germanías, Calle San Francisco de Borja, Plaza Escoles and Calle Mayor.
