Irene Parrilla Esarte, a student at the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV), has been elected Co-Chair of the ENHANCE Student Forum, the student representative body of the European ENHANCE alliance, which brings together ten leading European universities.
The Student Forum comprises student delegates appointed by each member university for a two-year term. The election of co-chairs is based on criteria such as leadership, commitment to student participation, and the willingness to actively contribute to the development of ENHANCE activities.
Irene Parrilla Esarte, a 5th-year student in the double degree in Food Science and Technology and Business Administration, will share this responsibility with Adam Wozniak from the Warsaw University of Technology (WUT). Together, they will lead forum meetings, foster discussions on the future of European higher education, and represent students' voices in front of the ENHANCE Board of Directors, formed by the rectors of member universities.
Since starting her studies at the UPV, Irene Parrilla has been involved in student representation, first at her school and then as executive secretary of the Student Union. Since then, she has been engaged in ENHANCE. 'For me, being elected to this position is quite an important achievement,' she explains. 'I am very happy to have been elected to this position and that the UPV trusts me to represent them, supporting me once again,' says Irene, who is originally from Pamplona.
Her long-term goal is to continue developing projects linked to the European Degree, but her ‘main focus will be organising activities so that university students get to know and remember ENHANCE as a great experience. I am very excited to start working on this incredible project and to do my bit!'
For Blanca Pérez-Aguilar, Core Officer of ENHANCE at the UPV, the election of Irene Parrilla ’represents recognition of the talent and leadership of our students at the European level, as well as an opportunity for the UPV to raise our international visibility within the ENHANCE consortium'.
Through its internationalisation team, the UPV continues fostering participation in this strategic alliance, which develops innovative programmes for mobility, interdisciplinary training, and challenge-based learning, such as the upcoming Guided Thematic Paths, planned for the 2026/27 academic year. Students who opt for this type of learning will obtain a distinctive educational certificate.
ENHANCE was established in 2019 with the aim of developing a joint European campus, free from physical, administrative, or educational barriers, where students, academics, and staff can move freely to experience the European Education Area. The mission of ENHANCE is to drive responsible social transformation and promote the development and application of science and technology for the benefit of society.
