A year of electric vehicle charging

The 12 charging points for electric vehicles installed at UPV have completed their first year of operation, and the annual statistics for the service provide a good figure: the emission of 14.78 tonnes of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere has been avoided. This would be the equivalent of recycling 522 tonnes of waste.

In January 2024, the Universitat Politècnica de València installed charging points for electric cars and vans for the exclusive use of the university community on its three campuses.

According to reports from the Vice-Rectorate for Sustainable Development of Campus, two-thirds of the charges are made on the Vera campus. Of the remaining third, half are registered on the Alcoy campus and the other half in Gandia.

Conditions

To use the chargers, it is necessary to use the Umbrella emobility application (available in the Play Store and APP Store).With a recharging speed of 22 kW, electric vehicles can be fully recharged in about 4 or 5 hours.

The rates offer significant discounts (€0.33/kW); in addition, the university community can access other chargers throughout Spain for €0.45/kW.

Commitment to sustainability

UPV remains committed to promoting sustainable mobility and plans to progressively expand the charging infrastructure on its campuses to adapt to the growing use of electric vehicles.

The initiative is part of the Strategic Plan for Sustainable Mobility of the UPV and the Net Zero line of the UPV Patronage project, which aims to achieve carbon neutrality at the UPV.

In the case of the dual chargers for electric vehicles installed, five of them have been donated by Power Electronics, a Valencian company and world leader in energy storage.
