Dear Little Girl
We celebrate the International Day of Women and Girls in Science with messages from UPV female researchers to the girls they were
[ 13/02/2025 ]
What would you say to the girl you once were? This is the challenge we posed to several female researchers at the Universitat Politècnica de València to celebrate 11 February, the International Day of Women and Girls in Science.
These emotional words convey a common message: don't give up; the world needs more girls like you. This is what the researchers Valery Naranjo Ornedo, Mª José Viñals Blasco, Verónica Saiz Rubio, Francisca Ramón Fernández, Concha López González, Marisa Carrió Pastor and Ivana Gasulla Mestre said in their letters. They are all winners of the latest UPV Research Awards.
You can listen to their letters on the website dedicated to 11 February at the UPV and in the special podcast created for the occasion.
A new season of Ellas Hablan de Ciencia
Coinciding with the commemoration of 11 February, we are launching a new season of Ellas Hablan de Ciencia (They Talk about Science), the programme presented by Luis Zurano, in which ten female researchers from the UPV and one from the UGR - honoured with Dones de Ciència - talk about their challenges, references and experiences in their research careers. In addition to the researchers above, this year's participants include Isabel Hernando, Mercedes Álvaro and Marival Segarra, as well as Marga Sánchez Romero from the University of Granada, protagonist of one of the last murals of the UPV's Dones de Ciència (Women of Science) project..
11 February
Exactly 10 years ago, the United Nations General Assembly established 11 February as the International Day for Women and Girls in Science to promote gender equality in science, encourage role models to inspire girls, support the advancement of women through specific programmes, and foster an inclusive environment through policies and actions that promote inclusion, diversity and equity.
