The UPV approves the call for a record number of teaching posts and launches the +Cantera programme in search of the best young talent

[ 26/04/2024 ]

The Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV), through its Governing Council, has approved the announcement of an unprecedented public job offer, which reflects the significant growth of the institution in teaching and research activities.

Specifically, the agreement, which was reached unanimously, includes the promotion to the full-time status of 6% of the total academic and research staff (PDI) - 120 people; 101 new lecturers, of which between 40 and 50 may be filled by associate lecturers, up to 15 of whom will be recruited in order to retain the best talent trained at the UPV through the +Young PhDs programme; and 14 new full-time lecturer posts, which will be subject to i3/r3 accreditation and will be aimed at stabilising researchers from programmes of excellence such as Ramón y Cajal or GENT.

On its path towards the necessary generational renewal over the next decade, the UPV's commitment is unparalleled. Since 2003, the average number of new vacancies per year has been 20.5, with a maximum peak of 63 in 2021, far removed from more than one hundred this year.

Likewise, the aforementioned public offer of employment should be added that the new processes adapted to the Organic Law of the University System (LOSU) for selecting UPV - academic staff have also been negotiated and approved by The Governing Council of the UPV.

+Cantera Programme

Today, the highest governing body of the UPV also officially launched the +Cantera programme, through which the institution, led by José E. Capilla, aims to retain the best young talents trained at the UPV by offering them opportunities to stabilise their teaching careers, ensuring an orderly and necessary generational renewal over the next few years.

Enrique Lores, honorary doctorate

Finally, among the agreements reached this morning by the Governing Council of the UPV, it is worth mentioning the approval of the proposal to award an Honorary Doctorate to Enrique Lores Obrador, current President and CEO of HP Inc., a company ranked 63rd in the Fortune 100.

The proposal for Lores' appointment, made by the School of Industrial Engineering (ETSII-UPV) and endorsed by the Spanish Institute of Engineering as an example of "excellence for his contribution to the successful resolution of major complex and global problems, both technical and innovative, as well as business organisation", recognises an exceptional professional with an enormous commitment to defending the importance of university and training.
