Access requirements

In accordance with the regulations governing access to official Master’s programmes set out in Article 16 of Royal Decree 861/2010 of 2 July, which amends Royal Decree 1393/2007 of 29 October establishing the organisation of official university education, access to official Master’s programmes requires holding an official Spanish university degree or another degree issued by a higher education institution belonging to another State within the European Higher Education Area that qualifies the holder for access to Master’s studies.

Likewise, graduates from education systems outside the European Higher Education Area may be admitted without the need for official recognition of their degrees, subject to verification by the University that they accredit a level of education equivalent to the corresponding official Spanish university degrees and that such degrees qualify the holder for access to postgraduate studies in the country in which they were issued. Admission via this route shall not, under any circumstances, imply the official recognition of the prior degree held by the applicant, nor its recognition for purposes other than undertaking Master’s studies.

The admission and selection procedure will be based on the Bachelor’s degree held, academic record and the profile of the subjects taken in the Bachelor’s degree, professional, teaching and research experience, and any additional training obtained through training courses.

Applicants must submit their full CV to the Master’s Academic Committee, including the syllabi for Bachelor’s degree subjects with content related to the Master’s programme to which they are applying for pre-enrolment.

The Master’s Academic Committee will establish a scoring system, based on the merits listed above, for the purpose of pre-selecting candidates. The scoring system will also be reviewed annually by the Committee, taking into account the cases observed in previous academic years.

Admission in the case of students with disabilities

For students with specific educational needs arising from a disability, appropriate support and guidance services will be provided to assess the need for curricular adaptations, pathways or alternative studies, through the support of the UPV CEDAT Foundation.

The UPV CEDAT Foundation provides information and guidance to members of the university community with disabilities, as well as classroom accompaniment and support. In addition, it provides technical study aids to those students who require them due to their special educational needs. It also promotes and manages training and employment initiatives for this group, both on and off UPV campuses, and offers different services through its Special Employment Centre.

Furthermore, the Foundation carries out projects to remove architectural and urban barriers, comprehensive accessibility plans, accessibility audits, project reviews, advice and the design of ideal accessibility models.

Admission criteria

Article 17 of Royal Decree 1393/2007, as amended by Royal Decree 861/2010, regulates admission to Master’s programmes and establishes that students may be admitted in accordance with the specific requirements and assessment criteria established by the University. The requirements and assessment criteria must ensure equal opportunities for access to education for students who meet the access conditions described in the previous section. They must be transparent, objective and must allow the selection, from among applicants, of the most qualified students on the basis of academic records and accredited merits, under conditions that ensure comparability of such records and merits.

In accordance with the UPV Academic Regulations and Student Assessment Policy, approved by the Governing Council on 28 January 2010, it is the responsibility of the Degree Academic Committees to make the “Proposal, to the committees designated by UPV for this purpose, of the admission conditions and credit recognition”. When there are more applicants than places offered, it is the responsibility of the Degree Academic Committees to assess the merits of the candidates and prioritise them in accordance with the specific requirements and assessment criteria set out below, approved by the Academic Committee of the Governing Council at its meeting held on 16 October 2013.

The Academic Committee of the Governing Council is responsible for the interpretation and, where appropriate, the approval of any regulations that must be established in relation to the admission procedure, in order to ensure the principles of equality and fairness in admission.

The structure responsible for the Master’s programme (ERT) will make public the specific admission requirements and the criteria for assessing merits and selecting candidates specified below, before the start of the general pre-enrolment period, through the means it deems appropriate. In any case, these means must always include publication of this information on the UPV institutional website. Likewise, the ERT will resolve admission applications in accordance with the aforementioned criteria and will publish the list of admitted students, as well as the list of applicants who remain on the waiting list, ordered according to the result of applying the merit assessment and selection criteria indicated below.
