A record year for I+D+I UPV

In 2025, the Universitat Politècnica de València earned 119 million euros in R&D&I projects, the highest figure in its history.

Research, Development and Technological Innovation with the seal of the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV) beat all its records in 2025. Last year, the UPV earned 119 million euros in R&D&I projects, almost three million more than its historical maximum to date -116.2 million in 2023- and ten million more than in 2024. And since 1996, the work and talent of the UPV’s innovative ecosystem has translated into 1634 million euros in R&D&I income.

This is the report “UPV Innovation”, carried out by the Knowledge Transfer Office (OTC) of the UPV, which was presented this morning at the Science Park of the Universitat Politècnica de València, as part of the UPV Innovation Forum 2026.

National leader

In addition to record R&D&I revenues, the UPV Innovation report also shows great results in other key areas of technology transfer: in 2025 UPV applied for 30 new patents, registered 35 new software products, promoted 24 startups and incorporated three new spin-offs into its innovative ecosystem (Kensight Solutions, Colibri BIOMED and Cityverse Technologies).

“Undoubtedly, 2025 was one of the great years of R&D&I with UPV seal. The figures contained in the “UPV Innovation” report reaffirm the national leadership in transfer of research results of our university; figures that help to consolidate us as the best technological university in Spain,” said Salvador Coll, vice rector for Innovation and Transfer of the UPV.

The UPV Innovation Forum brought together at the Universitat Politècnica de València’s science park nearly 300 professionals from research, entrepreneurship and agents of the Valencian R&D+i ecosystem, in an event that was inaugurated by José E. Capilla, rector of the UPV, and Esther Gómez Martín, regional secretary for Universities.

Transfer

After the official opening, the day began with the session “Let’s talk about transfer: connecting university and country”, with the participation of Elisa Rivera, Director General of Planning, Coordination and Knowledge Transfer of the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities, and the Vice Chancellor of the UPV, Salvador Coll.

The program also included a guest lecture by Elena García Armada, founder and president of Marsi Bionics -and honored by the UPV in its Dones de Ciència project-, who shared her experience in the field of robotics applied to health and technology transfer from research to the market.

Innovation Stories UPV

Throughout the event, nine “UPV Innovation Stories” were presented, featuring research staff, entrepreneurs and students of the Universitat Politècnica de València, who have stood out for their work in knowledge and technology transfer projects for the market.

The meeting also provided an opportunity to discuss “What do companies think about when they talk about innovation?”, in a round table co-sponsored by Fundación LAB Mediterráneo, with the participation of Juana Frontela, director of MOEVE’s Center for Innovation in Energy Transition, and José Guillermo Berlanga, corporate director of Innovation at Nealis.

The closing speech was given by Ana Darder, member of the Social Council of the UPV and founding partner and director of Talent Development at EDICOM.
