Title description

Mechanical engineering is one of the basic pillars of the consumer and equipment industry. In recent years it has experienced an important development with the incorporation of new technologies that have allowed to solve old problems, to approach new fields and, in short, to be at the forefront of product development and innovation.

This calls for specialists in the design of mechanical components and systems who have solid training both in the theoretical foundations of these new technologies and in the practical use of the tools that incorporate them. These specialists are mainly required to master the numerical techniques of analysis of mechanical components and systems that have revolutionized the mechanical design process. This allows a more agile process that facilitates the way to the development of products optimized to fulfill their intended function, with which companies in the sector gain competitiveness.

It is also necessary that these specialists have a solid training in the fields related to the design of mechanical components and systems, such as representation systems, material selection procedures, in-service behavior tests (fatigue resistance, vibrations, noise emission, etc.) without forgetting the manufacturing processes, all of this in a changing and competitive environment.

The fact that the master’s degree includes training in the practical use of software tools and design and analysis methodologies, as well as in the theoretical foundations that support them, means that the orientation of this master’s degree is both professional and research-oriented. In the first case, the training objectives correspond to the training and updating of professionals in the use and mastery of new technologies and methodologies, including, as a way to deepen in them rather than as an end in itself, the use of industrial software that incorporates them. For those students who want to start in research, the detailed theoretical foundations covered during the master’s degree allow them to achieve the level of research training necessary to complete their doctoral studies.

Objectives of the title

Training and updating of professionals in advanced mechanical design technologies, with emphasis on computational techniques in mechanical engineering for the calculation of components and structures, and for the analysis of the mechanical behavior of materials in service, including linear and nonlinear behavior, fatigue and fault tolerance, and the use of composite materials.

Training and updating of professionals in the selection and characterization of materials used in mechanical components.

Training and updating of professionals in modeling, numerical simulation and analysis of sound and vibration.

Treballe Fi de Màster

In order to complete their training, students must complete a Master’s Thesis (TFM), the content of which will be directly related to the contents of one of the subjects covered in the Master’s program. As stated in the Regulations of the Universitat Politècnica de València, the TFM must be oriented to the application and evaluation of competences associated to the degree.

The TFM will consist of the completion of an original work or project in which knowledge, skills and competencies acquired by the student throughout his or her studies are demonstrated. According to the same regulations, the TFM can have a professional character, the objective of which is the realization of a project in which the advanced, specialized or multidisciplinary training acquired in the master’s degree is applied; or a research character, oriented to promote the initiation in research tasks.

Each academic year, the Master’s professors will propose Master’s Thesis to be developed by the students (these works will have been previously accepted by the Master’s Academic Committee). The student may choose the TFM to be developed among the works proposed by the professors of the Master or propose a work that must have the approval of a tutor professor and be subsequently accepted by the Academic Committee of the Master.

The evaluation of the TFM is carried out through its defense in front of a qualified tribunal proposed by the Master’s Academic Committee and can only take place once the student has passed all the subjects required to obtain the degree.

Collaborating companies and more

The university has an employment observatory that monitors the employment situation of graduates by means of a series of The company sends them surveys after graduation, at one, three and five years of age.

In any of them, from the last courses, it can be observed that the employability for this Master is close to 100%. This high employability is favored by the experience acquired during the external academic internships.
