Admission requirements
The requirements for access to this degree are those generally established in Royal Decree 822/2021, in the wording given in its article 18. Likewise, those established in the Regulations for Pre-registration and Admission to university master’s degree studies at the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV) are also applicable.
In order to access the official university master’s degree courses, it is necessary to hold one of the following degrees:
- Official Spanish Bachelor’s or Master’s degrees, equivalents from other countries of the EHEA, and foreign degrees that are not homologated but with postgraduate access level are accepted.
- Foreign university degrees approved by the Ministry of Education that are equivalent to Spanish degrees.
Exceptions
Students with a Spanish or EHEA degree who must present the TFG or have pending credits (max. 9 ECTS), as well as those who must accredit a foreign language, may be conditionally admitted. In no case may students with conditional enrollment in a master’s degree obtain the master’s degree if they have not previously obtained the bachelor’s degree.
Valuation criteria
The Academic Committee of the Degree is the competent body to establish the evaluation criteria to be applied in order to establish the order of priority in the allocation of places, according to the regulations of Pre-registration and Admission to university master’s degree studies at the UPV and following the guidelines issued by the Vice-Rector’s Office responsible for student affairs.
The composition of the Academic Committee of the Degree is regulated in article 4.2 of the Academic Regime and Student Evaluation Regulations. This regulation is available at: Academic Regulations
Language requirement
According to the Academic Committee of the Master’s Degree in Maintenance Engineering, held on April 13, 2021:
Foreign students whose native language is not Spanish must provide, as a pre-enrollment requirement, a certificate of Spanish level B2, according to RD 889/2022 in Article 13, paragraph 2 or from the certifying bodies included in the tables of certificates recognized by ACLES (Association of Language Centers in Higher Education) which can be consulted on the website: Tables of certificates recognized by ACLES.
Those foreign students whose native language is not Spanish, and who do not have the certificates mentioned above, must pass a mandatory interview for assessment (in person or by telematic means) in which they must prove their identity and level of Spanish.
Quotas for seat reservations
The UPV will reserve at least 5 percent of the places offered in official university Master’s degrees for students with a recognized degree of disability equal to or greater than 33 percent, as well as for students with permanent educational support needs associated with personal circumstances of disability, who in their previous studies have required resources and support for their full educational inclusion.
In the latter case, the UPV’s Service for Students with Disabilities (CEDAT Foundation) will be responsible for assessing each case in order to issue the relevant report on the appropriateness of formalizing pre-registration for a UPV master’s degree for this quota of reserved places. For this purpose, the interested party will provide the above mentioned Service with the information and supporting documentation required for the assessment of his/her application.
Places within each quota are ordered and allocated on the basis of the admission grade.
General requirements for admission to a Master’s Degree at the UPV
They are transparent and objective criteria and make it possible to select, from among the students who apply, those who are most qualified on the basis of their records and merits and under conditions of comparability of these records and merits.
Admission to this master’s degree will not imply, in any case, any modification of the academic and, if applicable, professional effects corresponding to the previous degree held by the interested party, nor its recognition for purposes other than that of pursuing a master’s degree.
More information on pre-enrollment and admission regulations for master’s degrees can be found at: Pre-registration and Admission Regulations
Admission for disabled students
For students with specific educational needs arising from a disability, appropriate support and counseling services will be established to assess the needs of curricular adaptations, itineraries or alternative studies, through the support of the CEDAT Foundation of the UPV.
The CEDAT Foundation of the UPV offers information and advice to members of the university community with disabilities, as well as accompaniment and support in the classroom. In addition, it provides technical aids for study to those members of the student body who, due to their special educational needs, require it. It also promotes and manages training and employment actions for this group, both inside and outside the UPV campuses, and offers different services from its Special Employment Center.
The foundation also carries out projects for the elimination of architectural and urban barriers, comprehensive accessibility plans, accessibility audits, project reviews, advice and design of ideal accessibility models.
General information on access can be found in the Alumni Service – Access
Admission criteria
The Academic Committee of the Master’s Degree has established the specific admission requirements it has considered most appropriate for the degree, always taking into account that they are objective and transparent and allow the selection of the most suitable candidates, in accordance with the provisions of art. 18.5 of RD 822/2021.
A
Affinity and extent of studies pursued
The affinity will be valued taking into account the duration of these studies, so that degree or equivalent is 8 points, 9 in case they are studies of 5 years (previous engineering or non-European educational spaces) and 10 points for studies of 6 years or 4+2 (with another previous official master’s degree in the field of the degrees of reference). Studies of former technical engineering will be valued with 7 points and if the degree is not among those mentioned or assimilated, the student will not be accepted.
B
Evaluation of the academic record
The academic record will be valued with another 10 points maximum, obtained directly from the conversion of the average grade of the degree.
In the case of records qualified in scales other than those indicated in RD 1125/2003, the interested party will be required to provide a document obtained from the Ministry responsible for Universities. Those who do not provide this document will be assigned a 5 as average access grade.
C
Curriculum Vitae
Within the Curriculum Vitae of the candidates, as previously mentioned, professional experience will be valued exclusively and fundamentally in the field of Maintenance Engineering. Said work experience will be valued with a maximum of 10 points, with the following application scale:
- From 3 to 5 points per year in maintenance positions, according to professional category.
- From 2 to 3 points per year in positions related to maintenance, according to professional category.
- 0 to 2 points per year in other positions.
After the admission of the graduates, and if there are still vacancies, students who have not completed the degree but meet any of the following conditions will be admitted:
- Students coming from any of the access degrees who still have to pass the TFG and a maximum of 9 ECTS credits may be conditionally admitted.
- Undergraduate students who have yet to accredit the knowledge of a foreign language required to obtain a bachelor’s degree may also be admitted.
As many applicants will be admitted as places are offered, in strict order of priority. In the event of resignations, and provided that there are applications on the waiting list, the vacancies will be filled until the number of places offered or until the waiting list is exhausted, following the order of priority established above.
No specific entrance exams have been established for the Master’s program.
Scholarships
Studies leading to an official university degree allow access to scholarships and grants. The Ministry of Education, the Generalitat Valenciana and the Universitat Politècnica de València itself offer various scholarships and grants.

General scholarships for students pursuing post-compulsory studies valid throughout the national territory. The scholarship will consist of exemption from payment of fees for the provision of university academic services (tuition fees), corresponding to subjects enrolled for the first time. Other fixed and variable amounts may also be obtained, if the requirements established for this purpose are met.

For the awarding of the scholarship it is necessary to prove administrative residence in the Valencian Community and not to exceed the income thresholds established by the call, as well as to comply with the general and academic requirements. The scholarship consists of the exemption from the payment of fees for the provision of university academic services (tuition fees), for subjects enrolled in first and second enrollment.
The Universitat Politècnica de València offers various scholarships or grants such as social action grants, canteen grants or collaboration training grants. There are also grants for sportsmen and women.
