Description of the title

Forest fires are no longer just a constant disturbance in our ecosystems, but have become a civil protection problem with serious socioeconomic repercussions. Climate change and the progressive abandonment of the territory in rural areas are generating increasingly complex and dangerous scenarios, producing emergencies whose management requires a greater number of specialized professionals. MásterFuego has been taught since the 2012-13 academic year. It was discontinued in the 2020-21 and 2021-22 academic years due to a period of reform.

The 2022-23 academic year begins the second edition with the participation of three universities: University of León, Universitat de Lleida and Universitat Politècnica de València. The University of Vigo is a collaborating university. During the 7 academic years of the first edition, 216 students were enrolled. This increased specialization covers the handling of specific advanced technologies, knowledge of pyroecology, acquisition of skills to perform complex analysis of fire behavior, specialized training for the professionalization of the different positions of the Emergency Management Systems, knowledge of the legislative and planning structure both state and autonomous, mastery of the different information management tools or research in the different areas related to fires. Specialists, in short, in the different fields of integrated management of current forest fires.
