Title description

In recent years there has been a growing demand in ICT companies for specialists in areas such as digital image processing, virtual and augmented reality, intelligent systems and techniques, multi-agent systems, social computing, shape recognition, automatic learning, natural language processing, speech recognition, automatic translation, etc.

On the other hand, the development of systems and products from these technologies requires high doses of engineering and knowledge of advances in research, which brings the training demand closer to the research training typical of a doctorate. Both training aspects, professional and research, are integrated in this Master.

Objectives of the title

Training of specialists in:

Design of intelligent systems, application of artificial intelligence techniques, multi-agent systems, optimization techniques, virtual organizations, recommender systems.

Design of social behaviors in computational systems.

Development of shape recognition systems, automatic learning, computer graphics, synthetic image and static reality.

Image processing, computer vision and biometric techniques.

Intelligent human-machine interfaces.

Language technologies: automatic translation, speech recognition and understanding, natural language processing.

In-company internships

During the studies it is possible to carry out external internships to begin to get in touch with the professional activity. These internships can be carried out both in companies of the sector and in institutions related to any line of the master’s degree.

Extracurriculars

The internships are extracurricular and can be done from the beginning of the studies, without the need to have passed a minimum number of credits. Extracurricular internships are voluntary during the training period and do not form part of the Study Plan.

Registration Process

Students who wish to do an internship in a company must register in the curricular database of the SIE (Servei Integrat d’Ocupació de la UPV) and participate in the selection processes that are open.

Research and access to doctorate

The MUIARFID is an official master’s degree, which gives access to the PhD in Computer Science, in which you can deepen in one of the areas of study of the degree.

The research groups or institutes related to the master’s degree are:

  • Valencian Research Institute for Artificial Intelligence (VRAIN).
  • Pattern Recognition and Human Language Technology (PRHLT).
  • Computer Graphics Section of the Institute of Automation and Industrial Informatics (ai2).

The teaching staff of the master’s degree is part of different research groups of the UPV. The student interested in research, through the faculty, will be able to meet and, if necessary, join one of the groups to start the doctorate.

Academic exchange / agreements with other universities

MUIARFID offers the possibility of doing the Master’s Thesis in other universities through grant programs managed by the Interchange Office of the Polytechnic University of Valencia. The master’s degree has signed exchange agreements with European universities, where our students can carry out their TFM.

The Office of International Exchange Programs -OPII- coordinates the participation of the UPV in exchange programs worldwide. It manages mobility programs sponsored by the EU as well as its own programs financed entirely by the UPV, aimed at both students and teaching-research and administrative staff.

Installations and laboratories

The master’s degree has an exclusive classroom with a capacity for 40 students, equipped with a computer desk, computers for students and teachers, a projector and a multimedia system for online class recording and teaching.

In addition to the master’s classroom, the department has 10 additional computer laboratories, which are used in the subjects with the split practicals. Students have a laboratory for personal study and free access.

The department’s headquarters has five classrooms with capacity for 16 people. All of them are equipped with a computer for the teacher, a projector with a screen and a whiteboard.

Finally, there is also a presentation room with capacity for 54 people, equipped with audiovisual equipment for video and audio reproduction.

Master’s thesis

The Master’s Thesis, of 12 ECTS credits, is mandatory. It must be an original exercise to be carried out individually and consists of the development of a basic research work or practical application in the lines of Artificial Intelligence, Form Recognition, Machine Learning, Digital Imaging or Language Technologies, in which the skills acquired in the subjects taken are synthesized and integrated.

The student must write a report of the work that, in addition, must be publicly presented and defended in front of a panel of judges. For the evaluation, the quality of the report and presentation in general and, specifically, the originality and relevance for research-oriented papers and the methodology and applicability for professional-oriented papers will be taken into account by the examining board.
