The National Event on Precision Livestock Farming: the start of the Academic Year

Asistentes Evento PLF

On September 14, students in the Master’s Program in Precision Livestock Farming attended the national event associated with the European Congress on Precision Livestock Farming (ECPLF2026). This event served as a welcome activity for our students, who had their first opportunity to interact with renowned researchers and representatives from companies in the sector.

This event featured guest presentations by Professor Luciano González of the University of Sydney and Dr. Daniel Martín Collado of the Center for Agri-Food Research and Technology (CITA) of Aragón. Both speakers detailed the main technical and sociological factors that are shaping the application of various digital technologies on farms. Subsequently, researchers specializing in the use of technologies applied to animal production conducted a workshop describing these technologies, including positioning technologies for grazing, computer vision, environmental monitoring, implantable chips, and automatic feeding systems.

After the networking lunch, a roundtable discussion began with companies from the sector: Smaxtec, MSD, Star Oddi, Digitanimal, Dinamica Generale, and SoundTalks. Moderated by Javier Lorente (333 Academy) and Marc Mases (BonArea), this roundtable discussion addressed the main advances and challenges facing a constantly evolving industry and analyzed the need to recruit profesionals with the adequate training.

This national event has been organized by the Spanish Network for Precision Livestock Farming and Animal Digitalization (REDIGA), and the participation of ETSIAMN students is supported by the UPV Strategic Plan SIRVE.
