The first PhD program at Campus Gandia
Campus Gandia of the Polytechnic University of Valencia (UPV) will offer the PhD Program in Marine and Coastal Science and Technology starting in the academic year 2022-2023. As emphasized by Campus Gandia Director, Jesús Alba, “this campus has long been connected to the sea, with initiatives such as the Joint Unit with the Spanish Institute of Oceanography (IEO), the renewal of this collaboration for the next 10 years, the expansion of the sheds, the Research Institute for Integrated Coastal Zone Management (IGIC), and the University Master’s in Environmental Assessment and Monitoring of Marine and Coastal Ecosystems.” This new PhD program, “the first of its kind at Campus Gandia,” is the latest addition to these efforts..
Advanced Education in Science and Applications for the Marine and Coastal Environment
The PhD Program in Marine and Coastal Science and Technology aims to educate future researchers in the scientific and technological fields essential for the sustainable and effective management of marine and coastal areas. The program offers multiple research lines focused on advancing innovative methods, techniques, and procedures for better management of the coastal and maritime environment. These research areas address sociological, ecological, and environmental aspects, while also enhancing resource management efficiency.
Research topics covered in the program include: the use of electronic devices, telematic networks, and artificial intelligence techniques for monitoring marine and coastal environments; observation methodologies and ecosystem modeling; oceanography; fisheries management and river habitat modeling; as well as new materials for acoustic field control and simulation, with applications in the marine and coastal environment.
Expert and Academic Staff of the UPV
Managed by an academic committee of expert and renowned research staff from Campus Gandia, including members of the IGIC and other UPV research groups, the new program offers students an opportunity to work alongside some of the best minds in the field. Rubén Picó, coordinator of the Doctoral Program in Marine and Coastal Science and Technology, highlights the program’s collaboration with distinguished research personnel.
