A commitment to a Student House, more university life and strengthen the sense of community among the student body of the Gandia Campus.
For the new student delegate of the Gandia Campus, Glen Hernandis, his priority is “to promote a quality Student House in Gandia and, along with this, to encourage the arrival of more activities on campus that energize university life and strengthen the sense of community among the student body”.
Glen is in the third year of the Degree in Telecommunication, Sound and Image Systems Engineering and his candidacy obtained 24 votes – against the 11 obtained by the one led by Milagros Velázquez Mena – in the elections held last December. Elections to which he presented himself “with the idea of being able to help more and better”.
Detect the real needs of the student
From the position he now holds, the new student delegate of the Gandia Campus defends the need to “channel and respond to the problems of the student body in an organized and effective way”. To do this, Glen relies on his previous experience within the Delegation, first as Mistral manager and later as vice-delegate. These stages have allowed him to get to know closely the internal workings of the university and to detect the real needs of the student body.
Balancing the responsibilities of being a delegate with studies is not always easy, and he admits that the position can be demanding, as he is still a student first and foremost and must fulfill his academic obligations.
As for the most common problems, Glen explains that many are repeated over time and are usually resolved through the class delegates or through Mistral. Only in specific cases do larger conflicts arise that require more extensive intervention.
He also recognizes that, although part of the student body is aware of the work of the Delegation -especially those who have been at the university for more years-, there is still “a notable lack of knowledge among first-year students, both about who we are and what our functions are”. She hopes this will change with “the activities and initiatives we have planned” aimed at giving visibility to the Delegation and explaining what its functions are and how it can help the student body.
The Student Delegation at the Gandia Campus faces a new stage focused on closeness, participation and improvement of university life.
