What is the blue economy?

The blue economy concept has gained increasing prominence in recent years. The development of new technologies, the emergence of new industries, the competition for resources and the increasing pressure on marine ecosystems make the sea one of the major strategic scenarios. In this context, the podcast Blue Economy. Economy and geopolitics of the sea provides its listeners with a rigorous and accessible analysis to understand whether this is a passing trend or a far-reaching structural change.

Throughout 13 episodes, the 15-minute program offers keys to understanding how the oceans have become a central space of innovation, conflict and opportunity. From fisheries and aquaculture to marine energy, ports and coastal tourism, the podcast analyses the dynamics that are redefining our relationship with the sea and raises fundamental questions about its governance, sustainability and use.

The first season of Blue Economy. Economy and geopolitics of the sea premieres on Friday, January 30, 2026. Episodes will be released on a bi-weekly basis on UPV Podcast (podcast.upv.es) and on the iVoox and Spotify audio platforms.

This new production adds to the offer of UPV Podcast, the digital audio platform of the Universitat Politècnica de València a space for dissemination, culture and knowledge that brings together its own and collaborative productions to bring science, innovation and technology to all audiences.
