Jazz returns to the university campus with Xaloq and his album “Quan veja que ja no cante”.
From November 3 to 7, the Universitat Politècnica de València celebrates a new edition of Novembre Jazz UPV, the festival that every autumn turns the campuses of Valencia, Alcoy and Gandia into meeting points for jazz lovers.
In its new edition, the event maintains its commitment to innovative sound projects and to give visibility to emerging artists of an increasingly plural and diverse scene.
Xaloq presents his album at Gandia campus
Pau Jordà is the driving force behind Xaloq, a project with which he “explores and remodels Valencian roots music from the perspective of jazz and free improvisation” in the words of the saxophonist, composer and producer himself.
The group of the musician from Alcoy is based in Rotterdam (Netherlands), and brings together five international musicians. In addition to Jordà (sax), they are Laia Escartin (vocals), Fran Acàmer (piano), Barış Ofluoğlu (double bass) and Lucas Zegrí (drums).
Since its inception, Xaloq has performed on various stages, including the NorthSea Jazz Festival, North Sea Roundtown, Laantaren Venster in Rotterdam and the Mostra Internacional de Jazz y Blues de Cambrils.
With their debut album “Quan veja que ja no cante”, released in early 2025, the group offers a fresh and unique reinterpretation of traditional Valencian music, fusing roots and avant-garde.
Xaloq concert, Thursday, November 6, at 8:00 pm, in the Aula Magna of the Gandia Campus. Check out the complete program of Novembre Jazz UPV here link.
