An initiative designed to awaken scientific and technological vocations among secondary school students through practical and fun workshops.
More than 300 high school students from a dozen schools in the Marina, La Ribera and La Safor regions have participated in the La Safor program, the CiènciaLab workshops held at the Gandia campus between February and May,” Luis Miret, Deputy Director of Promotion and Relations with the Environment, said.
CiènciaLab is an initiative aimed at students in the third and fourth years of ESO and training cycles that takes place throughout the academic year, from October to May. Promoted by the Communication Area (ACOM) of the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV), this activity seeks to awaken scientific and technological vocations among young people.
Workshops that awaken scientific curiosity
During the year, “workshops are held on topics as diverse as recording a podcast, presenting a television news program, building a wifi antenna, environmental monitoring via satellite, or exploring immersive interactive technologies,” adds Miret.
“Students leave the routine of the classroom” and face new challenges in a real university environment. “It is very motivating for them,” and “they have a wonderful time,” agree the teachers of the centers that have gone through the CiènciaLab workshops this year.
These actions, which are carried out in the facilities of the Gandia campus, stimulate creativity and provide a unique experience by bringing students closer to science and technology in an enjoyable way. Try to make each workshop awaken their curiosity and encourage them to continue exploring.
From October to May
This academic year 2024-2025, the offer has been extended to seven days of workshops per term. The sessions, lasting an hour and a half, are conducted by faculty from the degrees and double degrees taught at the Gandia campus: Environmental Sciences, Audiovisual Communication, Telecommunications and Interactive Technologies.
Each group, composed of a maximum of 25 people, participates in two workshops during the morning, and at the end they can take a tour of the campus facilities. Thus, in addition to learning in a practical and fun way, participants can live the university experience for a day.
