“Maria Beneyto: vida ferida de lletra”.

A unique opportunity to approach the work of Maria Beneyto, Writer of the Year 2025. The exhibition commemorating her legacy can be visited from October 16 to 23 on campus.

The traveling exhibition “Maria Beneyto: vida ferida de lletra”, which presents the life and work of the Valencian author, declared Writer of the Year 2025 by the Acadèmia Valenciana de la Llengua (AVL), arrives at the Gandia campus of the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV).

Tribute to the writer of the year 2025

Organized by the AVL, with texts by Professor Josep Ballester and designed by the GimenoGràfic studio, the exhibition “Maria Beneyto: vida ferida de lletra” brings together a dozen panels that review the life and literary career of the writer.

Author ofLa dona forta,Glass ferit de sang, After the tendresa has been buried, Elegies de pedra trencadissa o The river is growing, Maria Beneyto (1920-2011) was a poet and novelist at a time when Vicent Andrés Estellés and Joan Fuster, Ana María Matute, Carmen Martín Gaite and Josefina Aldecoa stood out.

Her work was recognized with the Ciutat de Barcelona Prize in 1956, the International Calvina Terzaorli Prize in Italy, the València Novel Prize in 1959, the Valencian Letters Prize of the Generalitat Valenciana (1992), the International Working Women’s Prize of the Valencian Parliament (2000), the Isabel de Villena Prize (2008) and the Luis Guarner Prize (2009), among others.

“Vida ferida de lletra”

The exhibition “Maria Beneyto: vida ferida de lletra” offers the viewer the opportunity to approach the life and work of a leading figure of Valencian literature. It is, therefore, a tool to make known a writer who, as she herself said, did not seek “anything other than to reflect the world of people who, like me, live the daily life that corresponds to them”.

The exhibition “Maria Beneyto: vida ferida de lletra” will remain open to the public from October 16 to 23, in the multipurpose room of the CRAI.

In addition to the exhibition, the following have been organized two other activities to pay tribute to Maria Beneyto. The event will feature a lecture and workshop by Helga Ambak, an artist specializing in illustration, editorial design and printmaking.

The chat “Maria Beneyto, a strong woman. Creative process of an illustrated album” will take place on October 16, at 12:30 p.m., in the multipurpose room of the CRAI. And on workshop, “The oblivious eyes of creative narrative. Illustration as a fighting tool to tell stories against oblivion” will be held on October 23, from 12 to 2 p.m., also in the multipurpose room of the CRAI.
