A space for learning and growth aimed at people over 50 years old in the university campus of Gandia.
“This is a project we are very proud of”, with these words Vicenç Almenar, director of the Gandia campus of the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV), began his speech during the inauguration of the senior program. “The University is not just for young people,” he added, “but for anyone who wants to feed their curiosity and is open to the whole of society.”
For its part, for the Vice Rector for Art, Science, Technology and Society of the UPV, Salomé Cuesta, “the desire to know and explore is still latent,”as evidenced by the good reception of the initiative. In this sense, he stressed the need to “constantly improve the training we offer from the Senior University” and to expand collaboration with other academic institutions and public and private organizations.
Course news: more places, two groups, new subjects
Since its creation nine years ago, the Senior University at the Gandia campus has sought to provide a quality program for its students. And today, with an expanded and renewed range of courses, it continues to contribute to the social development of adults.
This academic year 2025-2026, “the Senior University of the Gandia campus is having an excellent reception, with an increase of about 30% compared to last year and with the desire that the proposed contents are of interest and pleasure for the students,” Javier Estornell, program coordinator, said.
More than 120 people enrolled, two groups, eight different subjects in each group. These are the novelties with which the ninth edition of the senior program on the Gandia campus.

With regard to the educational offer, a complete curriculum has been prepared that includes different areas: social sciences, health, natural sciences or art and humanities. Thus, the subjects offered cover a wide range of interests and concerns of the students: Living with plants, Introduction to oil tasting, A journey through time with music, Tools for a critical and conscious media consumption, Fundamental astronomy or How your brain works.
The Senior University promotes the approach of older people to culture and science. In addition, to complete the academic offer, conferences, excursions and joint activities are organized between the three campuses of the UPV (Alcoy, Gandia and Valencia).
Inauguration of the senior course in Gandia
The professor at the Josep Climent Professional Conservatory of Music in Oliva and collaborator in previous editions of the senior program on the Gandia campus, Telmo Gadea, has been in charge of giving the lecture “Classical music, music of minorities?”, to inaugurate the 2025-2026 course of the Senior University at the university campus of Gandia.

The ceremony brought together local and academic authorities in the center’s Aula Magna. And, of course, the senior students who are passionate about learning and doing so in a university environment “surrounded by people who share the desire to explore new areas of knowledge”, said some of the attendees.
With this new edition, the Senior University of the Gandia campus of the UPV is consolidated as a space to acquire knowledge, share experiences and create links between generations who wish to continue learning.
