Microcredentials UPV

Short-term training actions, with the objective of improving employability within the MICROCREDS national project.

The Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV) has launched a new offer higher than 40 microcredentials short term training actions, designed to improve employability and accredit professional competencies. This training is part of the MICROCREDS national project. The microcredentials will begin on October 13, 2025 and will be developed throughout the first quarter of the 2025/26 academic year. Already registration period open.

Micro-credentials are a new type of certification, in line with Decree 822/2021, which recognizes the university’s own training as a valid way to certify learning through micro-credentials or micro-modules. Although they are similar to lifelong learning, these microcredentials The company’s products stand out for having an important recognition in the form of credits and are aimed at different training levels, adapted to the European Qualifications Framework.

As Elena de la Poza Plaza, Vice-Rector for Employment, Lifelong Learning and Languages of the UPV, explains, “one of the essential characteristics of microcredentials compared to traditional specific training, where we are a national and international benchmark, is that they accredit the acquisition of a competence, a skill, an ability by the student”.

The target is training throughout the professional career because “it is necessary to adapt to the different current challenges, since being at the forefront implies constant change in a complex context”, added the vice-rector. Elena de la Poza also points out that one of the key resources in everyday life is time, both on the part of the employer and the worker, “hence the need for this micro-training” that allows the achievement of stackable skills and certifications.

Flexible training with a strong connection to the labor market

The offer includes classroom training, on line and mixed with a maximum duration of 150 hours which equals 15 ECTS credits. It is a flexible format, designed to adapt to the availability of adults, but also with the objective of improving practical skills. Currently, 60% of the offer is online (including synchronous or remote mode) and 40% face-to-face.

Each micro-credential has been proposed by UPV faculty, and its selection has been made with the endorsement of collaborating entities and companies that certify the need for the knowledge and skills included in each course. Its main objective is to improving employability in specific sectors.

70 % discounts for priority groups

The MICROCREDS project is financed by the European Union through the Next Generation EU funds, within the Spanish Government’s Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan (fiscal years 2023-2026), and is promoted at the national level by public universities, in coordination with the regional governments.

Thanks to this financing, the persons with Spanish nationality or residing in Spain, between 25 and 64 years of age, and 70% reduction in the cost of tuition fees.

Training provided by UPV faculty

They will be given, at least 50% by UPV professors.The program will also include external experts linked to the professional or business fields of each topic. Access requirements vary according to the micro-credential and are detailed in each information sheet: some require previous knowledge or specific training, while others are open to anyone interested.

Can these studies be validated as part of a degree?

Although these micro-credentials are not integrated into undergraduate studies and do not lead directly to an official degree, they can be recognized according to the regulations of each university and count as lifelong learning, of great value in processes of curricular improvement, professional promotion or accreditation of competencies.
