The Gandia campus opens its doors to those who wish to continue learning, socializing and enjoying new experiences, regardless of age. Its senior program, aimed at those over 50, offers a wide variety of courses.
Degrees, double degrees, master’s degrees and a varied program aimed at people over 50 years old. The Gandia campus of the Polytechnic University of Valencia (UPV) offers courses aimed at all those who want to learn, socialize and have fun. An informative and cultural program, with topics ranging from art and history to technology and wellness, adapted to the interests and demands of its senior students.
In operation since the 2017-2018 academic year, the senior program of the UPV Gandia campus has established itself as a highly valued initiative. “The number of participants has grown, making it a success,” said the director of the Gandia campus, Vicenç Almenar. In fact, the last edition closed with a waiting list. For this reason, for the next academic year 2025-2026, the senior program is expanding the number of places so that more people can join this enriching experience. “There will be 120 places distributed in two groups, one that will meet on Mondays and Wednesdays and the other on Tuesdays and Thursdays,” said Luis Miret, Deputy Director of Promotion and Relations with the Environment.
An environment to learn, grow and connect
The director of the Gandia campus, Vicenç Almenar, also emphasized that “university life goes beyond classes and study. The center offers an environment where socializing, culture and sports are combined with training, creating a complete space for those who want to remain active and motivated.
The senior program reflects this philosophy. For Bernardino Roig, who has been in charge of the program for the last three years, “these courses include outings and visits to learn while enjoying”, such as a route through the marshlands of La Safor, an excursion through the central regions or a visit to the Palau de les Arts in Valencia. In addition, the program has promoted meetings between students from the three campuses of the UPV (Alcoy, Gandia and Vera), encouraging the exchange of experiences in intercampus days.
Ninth edition of the senior course at the Gandia campus
The closing of each course comes with the presentation of diplomas, a moment of celebration and recognition. “Although the course ends, we hope you continue to enjoy everything our campus has to offer,” said Salomé Cuesta, vice rector for Art, Science, Technology and Society at the UPV, at the closing ceremony. Ana Muñoz, UPV’s Senior Coordinator, also participated in the closing ceremony.
It should be recalled that the UPV Senior University is responsible for developing and organizing the specific training program for the over 50s on its three campuses. With it, “it brings the University closer to people who are still enthusiastic about continuing to learn”. The program depends on the Vice-Rectorate for Art, Science, Technology and Society of the UPV and has the collaboration of the Generalitat Valenciana, through the Department of Education, Universities and Employment.
For the 2025-2026 academic year, classes will be held from October 13, 2025 to June 3, 2026, in the Campus Conference Room, from 4:30 to 5:30 pm and 6:00 to 7:00 pm. The registration will be open from June 25 to October 8, online through the Senior University website.
